hi guys,

just wondering if using lower octane such as 91 damages the car. my dad reckons it doesnt, he puts it in his late model ford fairlane, and it seems to go well :)

but i dont wanna damage my car...ive been using 96/98 so far - cant really tell the difference.

Only problem will come when you gun it - you'll detonate the innards all over the pavement. .

Stick with the PULP. Falcodores don't have high enough compression to warrant PULP, they'll get by on woosy ULP.

I ran my old R32 GTS-t on 91 for nearly 4 years. It used to detonate a bit under boost / load. It didn't have problems while I owned it, but by the time I traded it on the R33 it was making a bit of a knock (sounded to me like a bottom end knock). From this I decided that the use of 91 wasn't a good idea in a Skyline.

The R33 runs on a diet of PULP.

If you can't afford the gas.. you can't afford the car. A word of wisdom I was told..

Run the best octane you can, it is cleaner burning and better for your engine.

Isn't it possible to get the car tuned with an elect. boost / Fuel Controller?

One for low Boost & Low octane & One for Highboost & High Octane...

Or even highest boost with retarded ignition & low octane?

I think.. hrmm don't really know but sounds feasible.

I fiqured I would save until I had the money for my skyline as I new Insurance would be high... $1500 p.a mark... compared to the old VS V8 i had for $600 p.a.

Yeah.. cars cost. :(

I get alright insurance, around 600 pa.

I am sure you could probably tune your car for each octane... but I see no point.

all skyline,s are made to run on 100 ron ,its readily available in japan
the best petrol we can get over here is 98 ron so i also add octane boost.
cheaper than a new engine
you also loose power using low grade fuel.
hey some one mention avgas, thats the way.:)

no no no not avgas,
Its good in a carby car but no good for the ol' O2 Sensor with EFI..

Unless the car is setup for AVGAS... it will probably go slower..

hey all just thought I'd ad my 5c worth

When I got my gts-t the dealer was running it on 91.... I was pissed off when I timed it 0-100 etc it ran like crap...

started running it on 98... bingo 2 seconds dissapered from 0-100 time and it just runs better... the difference in price is in my opinion is insignificant when compared to the better running, performance etc etc
