I have a 2009 Jetta with 174,000 miles. When I’m driving the exhaust is REALLY loud...except when going around a right curve... then it’s normal sounding. Any ideas what it could be before I bring it in. I don’t know much about vehicles that’s why I’m asking people who know. Is it the catalytic converter?

I don't think it is the exhaust at all. I think it is a wheel bearing.

The tires were replaced last year all the brake system was replaced last year there is no shaking nothing to do with steering so I wasn’t thinking that it would be the brakes or the bearings And the noise does not seem like it’s coming from anywhere near the wheel wells

Exhaust doesn't change sound when you turn. Bearings will get silent, or louder, when you turn. A bad bearing doesn't have to have any shaking, it could just be loud.

Ah ….. Mmmm …… Not exactly.
If you have a crack in the exhaust system somewhere, it can open and close depending on which direction you are turning - because the exhaust system is supposed to be able to move (it is hung on rubber.)

It’s loud but when I get up to 30 and higher it’s really loud, especially when the accelerator is engaged
