Eclipse beats Mustang: I accept defeat

Well i was going home last night from the fireworks show they had near my house. I was getting on the highway when this car comes flying up on me like crazy. Anyways I'll skip the part about how we got on the freeway (don't want another Import vs. Domestic thread again :)). But when we did finally get on the freeway i let him get beside me and we both punched it, by the time we were at 130mph he was probably about 2-3 car lenghts ahead. Gotta give it to those imports for highway racin'. Oh yeah and i don't know what kind of eclipse it was i just know it was cause i saw the little 'hump' in the hood as he went by. Now i know where NOT to race imports :bigthumb:

Nice to see one of us 'domestic' guys can be humble about a loss.

But, the 3.73 gear ratio isn't helping you out on the top end. Let me guess at 130mph you were nearly tach'd out right?

3.73 is a great ratio, great 1/4 mile gear and gives respectible highway milege. If you want to go play with the imports on the freeway, you either need more horsepower or less gear. :)

nice race buddy, those dsm's are pretty easy to get down into low times.

i think this is the 1st time i've heard FROM a domestic losing to an import...usually is honda's saying they beat them, then being flamed...

Yeah the turbo ones are really fast from the factory. And I've heard you can get 300 HP from them with less than 1000 dollars with just bolt-ons because they are so detuned from the factory.
The bubble in the hood is on all eclipses whether turbo or not.

How did you get your mustang up to 130mph ?
From what I've researched all these mustangs (except cobra/saleen) are governed at 110. Unless you took the limiter off of course.

Option 1) he got a new ECU with no limiter
Option 2) he is full of it :cwm27:

He has a 1990. Those weren't governed.

FYI, the governor is not for safety reasons, they're for air pollution reasons. If it were for safety, we'd be governed at 75.

93 and down 5.0s can go as fast as you can with the HP you have no governors. Ive had mine over 130.

Those DSM are not amazing from the factory but I seen so many at the track pullin 12s. Whenever I see one on the street I give them respect.

1000 dollars on a eclipse will not get you a three hundred horses with that much the stock turbo will be maxxed out before it hits that. it was prolly a gst or gsx you raced my gsx you to get up in the 140's if i remember correctly.

I heard they are really restrictive from the factory, 210 HP stock. Just by bolt ons and upping boost to 16 PSI you will come close to 300. Stock turbo can handle 16 PSI without roasting, it can handle 18 for a few seconds but then say bye bye.
Even if it was only 275 thats plenty to beat a 90 GT stang by 2-3 car lengths. I believe the fox mustangs only had 240 HP, and the eclipse is probably lighter.

but in the top end your turbo will be peaky the stock t25 is gay im pretty sure its a t25 atleast.

If I'm not mistaken the 1G DSM's had a 16G, and 2G DSM's have a 14G. I know the 2G is smaller. It can handle 16 PSI no problem, but will roast at 18+.

yep the 2nd gen clipses have the 14g turbo on them and the 1st have the bigger 16g. they can handle a nice amount of boost. my friend had a 1st gen and he would boost about 19-20 psi and peak about 22 psi sometimes and he had everything stock. that was until he sold the car :comprage1

yes i know, the 3.73's ain't helping any but i figured i'd give' e'm a shot on the highway. And yes i was pretty much tached out. I'm always looking for more horsepower :iceslolan

hmmm, first of all how'd you know i went to goldwater?, you must have forgotten that our boys baseball team went to the playoffs, same with basketball, football team tied for 2nd in region, and the most impressive sport at our school by far but is overlooked WAY to much........Wrestling team. 6 state placers in the last 2 years, 9 placed in region, 3 region champs. Let me tell ya something, they probably won't have as good of team this year (wrestling) but that's because they're young (juniors, sophmores mostly). Do you know who Jeremy Wilson is? Trust me, that kid is 100% stud and will do many great things as a wrestler before graduating from there. You just keep your eyes on the anouncemnts in the morning, you'll hear about him don't worry :wink: :bigthumb:

I know of a guy who had his 90 gt to 155 with the stock gearing ( i dont know what it is) but I also know that my cousins first gen eclipse will do 140 off the top end

Stock gearing is much higher than 3.73

If you mean higher as in taller than yes. Its like 3.08. The 3.73 is a 'shorter' gear even though its a higher number.

Stock gearing on a 5.0 5-speed can be 2.73-3.08.

Its such a tall gear ratio, great for highway cruising and for gas milege.. but it doesnt help in the go-fast department.

thats like having an ls tranny with an all motor b18c boring not shifiting much ls is good for turbo though.

I'm almost positive it wasn't a turbo, but dunno for sure. All i could really hear was my car revving and his car's buzzing sound from his exhaust (5" tip :mad: ) . No wing though, other than his coffee-can muffler it was real clean looking. He also had red gauges.

Whether it was turbo or not it would still have the same bubble hood. There's no way to tell unless it says GS-T or GS-X on the back. But it's really hard to see while your moving, even more so at night.

you would probably hear the turbo spool up or maybe a blow off valve i dont think the non turbo can go that fast i think it was a gst or gsx.

Not on the older ~93's with the sohc non turbo engine they don't. On the ~98 body style yeah, they all did because the cam sprockets would touch the hood otherwise.

Oh, sorry I was only talking 2G DSM's.

I just found this out the other day myself because my buddy has a sohc eclipse and I asked where his "bubble" was :smile:

I was lookin around at DSM stuff and cam across this. Yea this is a mad late reply and will be the only reply I make.
1. DSM's are Domestic Guys...Not Imports
2. Unless his Stang is a p.os. he raced a Turbo DSM. The Non Turbos come w/ some crap engine, not the 4g63 or 4g63T
3. $1,000 will get you 300hp if not more. By simply upgrading the Turbo, getting a FMIC (FrontMount Intercooler), and Changing Exhaust, ou can get in that area easy.
