Repsol Honda NSR250 (Tamiya 1:12)

Started this in the beginning of 2011, then moved from Helsinki to Middle Finland, and "forgot" the model under my stash. Back in 2011 I painted and put the decals on the fairings, glued and painted the frame. Now I have been struggling with painting of the zillion small parts, and finally assembled them to the current state. Now I'm heading for a two-week vacation, to (hopefully) sunny island of Koh Lanta, Thailand, so there will be a small pause of model building :grinno:

Small update. Completed the parts for the front forks. Few different metallic shades (AK, Alclad and Vallejo). The slider tubes are coated with Hasegawa Mirror finish. Decals and metallic parts over sprayed with Humbrol gloss clear (water based, Future?)

This model bring back memories. Now they all gone. Love that Repsol metallic blue.

Nice finish decals. What paint did you use for the wheel, very bright?

Thanks to you all! Back from Thailand to the cold and rainy Finland!


The wheels are painted with orange from some Zero's Repsol set. The colour is incorrect, I know. Should be the same colour as the yellow sun on the main fairing. On the other hand, Tamiya didn't get that yellow correctly, it is too much like some desert yellow from WWII (and as the decals are so thin, the blue under colour changes the decal's colour)!

Tervo - what color was the blue metalic that you used on the bodywork?

which company and paint number - it looks very close to what it should be.

I agree the orange on the wheels it not correct but that is okay? it doesn't detract from the build in my opinion.

This is one of the cleanest NSR250's I have seen - the forks came out really well considering they are not a Top Studio or Tamiya upgrade fork set

which Alclad II colors did you use on the forks?

I think maybe the Zero paints for the 1999 NSR500 will be close to the colors for the Repsol "circle" or "sun" on the body work for the NSR250.

I will order a set and check as I have a 1999 NSR500 Doohan bike to build some time in the future.

@john18d, He was stated that the color use Zero paint set for Repsol color. Tamiya marked the blue as X-13 metallic blue on the instruction manual, not sure it match original bike's color. they also use x-13 on doohan's NSR from 1995-1997 season.

The Zero's set I used was ZP-1081 (Repsol Honda NSR500 1998 Paint Set). Tamiya X-13 isn't spot on, but adequate, as is their offer for the wheels (X-6 orange).


Forks are painted with AK Xtreme metal "Aluminium", which seems to be the same as Alclads "Aluminium". Calibers are Vallejo "Gun Metal". Looking at the photos, the fork stanchions should be darker (Alclad "Dark Aluminium"?).


Here is a photo of the front fender on top of an old Celica painted with X-13. I could live with that, if I could live with Tamiya paints!
