Hi all!
Probably a totally new Group of people here, exept for some of the old that I spotted ;)
I’m an old member that returns from a very long break. I was active here when I was a teenager. Now I am in my 30s and have two kids.

So the car is it a Tamiya Porsche GT2 that I started with back in 2008, it’s an old post here somewhere but it’s without pics now days.
Anyway, I had already cut the door out made the chassis, and painted most of the body and chassis and made some assembling.

I took it up where I left and started detailing it.

I need to remove the decals and put on some other ones. The reason why I have decals is because the body isn’t clear coated. Did not have anywhere to spray during winter back in the day. So I was kind of lazy about it. But it have to do without it. Well this is to get started again. Think I have to build another one in the future.

I am also thinking if i have to go down in wheel and tire size.. looks to big in the pictures but cool when you se it irl.

The other night my son woke upp and wanted to help out so he got his own Tamiya DTM Opel to work on. He was so exited but did a great job for being 4years old!

So after doing some detailing I can say that there is no escape from a respray. The paint is dull. Get damaged very easily since there is no clear. And there is huge differences in color on the parts. And the door even have a dust dot in the middle.

It looks worse irl than on these pictures.

nice to be back to the hobby!!!
it's a bit messy to modelling with kids...
I've tried once with my son (4yo)with a cheap model (alfa romeo 158) and he didn't had the patience at all!
keep up the good work!

Great start and welcome back!
AF is slower these days, but its just as good - thanks to great builds like yours.
Awesome that you are sharing this with your son too!

You are courageous to make it with opening door :D

Its a shame that you have to respray, as the color is really beautiful.
Also, do you plan to remove the paint or sanding the body and paint over ?

Anyway, before painting, I would first drill a small hole into the mirror leg and one in the door where it sits. I would then insert a small metal rod (from a needle) into the mirror's leg and position it in the hole from the door to see how it fits (the drilling in the door must be done in an angle)

This way, after you paint it, attaching the mirrors is easy, they are not fragile when you touch them and you can glue them easily without risking to destroy the paintjob with the glue.

Its a nice color but badly executed. I will see, I have a really thin coat of paint and no clear so I think I sand it and respray the body and panels. I have to buy a new can of the Tamiya paint as well since the one I have is almost out. Or I make it an other color. Time will tell.
Good tip on the mirrors I will have a look at it.
