Advice on Selling 1999 LX for Parts

I have a 1999 Civic LX 4D that is not in the best condition. Brake and exhaust systems need repairs that come to $2-2.5k. It's just not worth it for me to pay that much, so I'm looking to sell it and use that money to start saving for another car.

Mileage is at 151,512 and there is some cosmetic damage. The car still runs, but the brake system is on the verge of failing, and it has a loose exhaust pipe directly beneath the manifold.

Any advice on the best way to sell this and how much I can expect to get for it? I don't have the means to part it out myself, but I'm considering a salvage yard. Would it be viable to sell the whole thing online as a project car?

That cost for repair looks like it came straight from a dealer or a shop. There is no reason it should cost that much to repair. I'm assuming you don't have the means or ability to do it yourself, hence the price.

A 99 Civic would make anyone a great beater car. Put it up on Craigslist for $1000 and take the first $700 that is offered. Thats more than a junkyard would offer you for scrap and trust me, you don't want to part a car out. It is a lot of effort and any more for not a lot of money.

Yep, took it to two shops and got the same story and price each time. I wish I could do it myself but I don't have near the means or ability.

Both shops said I needed to replace basically the entire brake system and that an exhaust pipe had to be replaced, as it had been patched and welded too many times. Do you think I could find a shop to do that for cheaper?

You can get a catback for that car for under $100. What you need to do is make friends with a shade tree mechanic and see if they will look the car over for you and give you some recommendations and maybe they can give you a good price on fixing it up.
