I hope you gals/guys don't mind me posting here. And no street capable Jettas will be harmed making this project, only totaled ones.

I am a disabled vet and can no longer ride a motorcycle, but that won't keep me off the road, I am going to build a motorcycle trike. So many have done the V8, VW bug motors mine needs to be like me, different and unique.

So I thought of using a Jetta powerplant. A turbo diesel Jetta motor would not only look cool, sound cool but also be decently fast. The trike constructed would weigh about a third of the original car.

My question: Are there engines, years, types to avoid due to problems, recalls or any other reason. Basically is there a lemon motor in the Jetta line?

Thanks and once I move south next year and set up my workshop I will post pics.
