How long after a repair will the CEL turn off

I have a 2004 sentra. I did the repair. The car has no tags. Waiting to get everything repaired before I get my 30 day tags. So can I get the check engine light to turn off by saylike letting the car idie.

Some CEL's will need reset with a scan tool/OBD reader even though the issue has been fixed.
