EPS Help 2006 MAXX

I have a 2006 Malibu Maxx with EPS. The car has about 50k miles. it belonged to a family member that did not drive a lot. This is more noticeable the higher the speed. There seems to be a dead spot from center turning CCW. When i turn CW just a few degrees to get the equal amount CCW i have to turn twice as much for about 10 degrees. I was under the impression that the EPS assisted the turning and if it failed it would just be difficult to turn like with hydraulic PS loosing the pump.
so is the dead spot a mechanical issue or something like calibrating the EPS sensors ..? there is no noise, harshness, vibration etc.

I would contact your local Chevy Dealer.......they can check your VIN # for any open campaigns......

Chances are the torque sensor has already been replaced, but couldn't hurt to check....

Sorry, just read the campaigns.....they had a 10 year limit from the day the vehicle was originally bought.....

Found another one #10183A, but again 10 year limit....

One thing you need is a scan tool that reads, "C", or Chassis codes....your average scan tool or code reader does not read these.....a scan tool that reads ABS codes/data, can read these.....

Possibilities are: intermediate shaft, steering gear binding, steering shaft bent, sensor, wiring, power steering assist motor, etc.

We have a low mileage 2007 Maxx. I'd had a 2004 at one time. Due to customer complaints, I was under the impression that the '06 and '07 Maxxes went back to regular power steering. Ours for sure doesn't have EPS. And I hate it. I loved EPS; my current Fusion drives like that did and I'm glad. Are you SURE you have EPS?

i have a TECH2 and an HFT scanner that has ABS.... NO CODES WILL CHECK AGAIN.

Are you SURE you have EPS? unless the PS pump and reservoir are in the trunk...YES

We spent nearly $3000 on the Maxx in 2017 for suspension and steering issues at the local Chevy dealer, due to very low mileage (40K-ish at the time). The car was barely worth that much. Should another major expense arise, it's toast. Suspension and steering issues are well-known in Maxxes, especially the '06s and '07s, so beware. And nearly all of them are basically worthless by now.

i bought another rack and pinion from rock auto will install it soon.

...what did you have replaced on your steering?
i replaced my tie rod ends and of course the rack and pinion. i find it hard to believe these parts are going bad under 50k miles.
