Lancia Delta S4 Marlboro – Beemax 1/24

New entry with new project and with recently released kit: Lancia Delta S4 of the firm Beemax at scale 1/24. A very desired kit because it is an icon of the GrB, and because the kit only existed in resin manufacturing, not very accessible to all the modelers. Here is the box:

But I’m not going to do the Martini livery, Marlboro one will be the choice, car that led Juan Carlos Oñoro in the Spanish gravel rallye Championship in 1987, and he won it. Not to be confused with the car that ran the following two years with Gustavo Trelles, in the same championship.

Desde que empecé este coche y puse el anterior post hasta ahora, he ido recogiendo información y comparándola con la maqueta. Y la verdad es que se pueden hacer muchas cosas!! Por ejemplo en la parte delantera. Una vez quitadas las marcas de molde, repasamos las líneas de panel, y añadimos las piezas que forman en faldón delantero, que pegamos con pegamento Tamiya y repasamos las uniones con el pegamento super líquido también de Tamiya. A su vez, hacemos los agujeros donde irán los remaches que pondremos más adelante.

Pero como lo he hecho? Una vez fijado el lateral del kit, limo hasta que llega a la forma del alerón, haciendo éste más largo. Así, al pegar la chapa, queda en el borde del extremo. Si hubiéramos sustituido la pieza del extremo del kit, no hubiera estado en su lugar sino más adentro.

Desde febrero no ponía ninguna actualización….Vacaciones, Semana Santa, diversos puentes…..pero no he parado!! De hecho he tenido que dividir las fotos en dos procesos por la cantidad de tareas que he realizado. En esta primera, me dedico enteramente a la parte delantera del coche.

Aquí vemos la pieza base del cockpit, con la bandeja delantera, y donde se sitúa la entrada de gasolina a la derecha, que como va incluida en el capó, no aparece:

Si os fijáis, entre las piezas del chasis y el cockpit, y la carrocería, hay un hueco que no existe en verdad, con lo que vamos a taparlo, añadiendo plástico. Para ello ponemos cinta de enmascarar y perfilamos con un lápiz el borde interior de la carrocería donde vamos a ampliar:

En esta entrada voy a mostrar parte de las piezas del transkit de KMP para este coche. Y empezamos por el conjunto de escapes del motor y el turbo. La diferencia es clara ya que el turbo del kit es muy diferente del real:

Pasamos al motor. En blanco, es el original con mis cambios, y encima, la pieza del TK que sustituye al del kit ya que las salidas del kit son erróneas. Como ya las hice yo, la pieza del TK la dejaré para un posible modelo futuro.

Los bujes de las ruedas del kit son para una versión de asfalto, y yo quiero hacer la versión de tierra. Por ello, además del TK general del coche , compré el TK de versión de tierra, con las llanta, neumáticos y los bujes. Se aprecia que la parte redonda está desplazada en las piezas negras del TK.

Continuamos modificando piezas del Lancia Delta S4, y lo primero que os muestro es como queda la entrada de aire al turbo con su filtro, así como el radiador de aceite, ambos con la calca de fibra colocada:

Recordad que los eliminé para darle profundidad, y después de imprimados, los pinté de blanco. A la izquierda, veis las tapas de dichos botes pintadas de negro satinado.

Y volvemos a la pieza de inicio, la del filto de entrada de aire al turbo, que estaba pintada con negro satinado, y en la que tenemos que cubrir con fibra. Lo primero es hacer plantillas con cinta de enmascarar. Ponemos la cinta y marcamos con un lápiz los bordes:

Una vez hechas las plantillas y recortadas con un cutter, las ponemos sobre la plancha de la calca elegida. En este caso, se ven dos tramas y colores diferentes, una para la entrada de aire y el filtro, más dorada, y la del final, más gris. Decir que esas hojas que cogí estaban en mal estado, deshaciendose al salir del agua, con lo que tuve que user otras más nuevas.
Once the templates were made and cut with a cutter, we put them on the plate of the chosen decal. In this case, two different patterns and colors are seen, one for the air intake and the filter, more golden, and the one for the end, more gray. To say that those leaves I took were in bad condition, falling apart when leaving the water, so I had to use other new ones.

Vamos con los neumáticos. Después de su imprimación, los pinto con el Negro de Zero para las ruedas. Su acabado es muy bueno como podéis comprobar!!

Pasamos a una pieza de KMP, hecha en 3D que se pondrá dentro del portón trasero y que canaliza el aire de las entradas laterales hacia los dos grandes radiadores del motor. Para afinarla, la lijo y relleno con este putty nuevo que se disuelve con agua y que su acabado es muy similar a la verde de Stuco. La aplicamos por casi todos lados:
We pass a piece of KMP, made in 3D that will be placed inside the tailgate and that channels the air from the side inlets to the two large radiators of the engine. To refine it, sand it and fill it with this new putty that dissolves with water and that its finish is very similar to Stuco’s green. We apply it almost everywhere:

Si bien hemos visto unos tubos en el radiador delantero, más o menos acabados, aquí or muestro el proceso. Los tubos doblados y pegados, con masilla en las uniones. Destacar que las uniones tienen un alambre dentro para asegurarlas así como en los extremos que van acoplados al filtro. Dichos alambres irán metidos en dos piezas que he añadido al filtro con su correspondiente agujerito:
While we have seen some tubes in the front radiator, more or less finished, here I show the process. The tubes bent and glued, with putty in the joints. Note that the joints have a wire inside to secure them as well as at the ends that are attached to the filter. These wires will go into two pieces that I have added to the filter with its corresponding hole:

Pasamos a los triangulos traseros de la suspensión. COmo véis, las fijaciones de la pieza no se asemejan nada a la realidad, por lo que las voy a rehacer. Lo primero, maco las medidas en el metal de los diskettes, y hago los taladros….

Pasamos ahora a una parte importante de mis modificaciones: las fijaciones para mantener el capot delantero y el portón trasero cerrados. Además, de las bisagras de este último.
Empezamos por el capó. Mantendré las piezas originales del kit en lo referente a la fijación y giro del mismo. Eliminaré las fijaciones que utilizaba el kit delante del parabrisas y para sutituirlos, usaré imanes de 1×1 mm que irán en los laterales. Para insertarlos, añado unas piezas de Evergreen en cada lateral del capó:

Pasamos a las bisagras. Vamos a hacer una pieza fijada a la carrocería, con un tubo sobre el que se ponga y pivote la pieza del portón. Para hacer esta pieza, necesitaba un tubo partido por la mitad que uniré a una pletina. Para ese tubo, cojo uno de latón y le hago una ranura con el minitaladro.

En principio, decidí cambiar las salidas de los escapes, sustituyendo las piexzas de plástico del kit por tubos de latón, los cuales tenía que adelgazar la anchura de sus bordes. Para ello, utilicé la fresadora con la punta que véis en la foto:

In principle, I decided to change the exhaust outlets, replacing the plastic pieces of the kit with brass tubes, which had to thin the width of their edges. To do this, I used the milling machine with the tip you see in the photo:

Continuamos poniendo mas fotograbados. Ahora le toca el turno a los dos grandes radiadores traseros. Le pego las rejillas, dos de arriba y otras dos en la pate inferior, y las correspondientes soldaduras de TM, que también utilicé en el escape:

Y cuando enseñé esta foto a algunos colegas, me dijeron que la fijación del tubo era poco real, por lo que busqué fotos y vi que tenía unas fijaciones extras. Las hice con lámina de metal, cortada y limada para que se adaptara a la curva del tubo. En el centro le puse una cabeza de tornillo de MasterClub:

Para cambiar un poco,os muestro el proceso de una pieza que es la fijación del cable del acelerador. Va situada en la parte derecha en orden de marcha, y colocada en la pieza negra de fibra que pone el rótulo de Abarth. Primero marco las lineas e corte exteriores y las de los dobleces, así como los agujeros, todo sobre la lámina grande:

Para terminar de detallar las piezas de los radiadores, hago previamente una prueba para testear los manguitos que unen los tubos. Sobre lámina
metálica autoadhesiva, corto varias tiras, elimino las intermedias, las imprimo y pinto de azul Ligier de Zero. Después las pego en sus sitios,y le añado dos tiras muy finas del mismo material a modo de abrazaderas, siendo este el resultado final del test:

To finish detailing the radiator parts, I previously made a test to test the sleeves that join the tubes. On self-adhesive metal sheet, I cut several strips, remove the intermediate ones, print them and paint Ligier de Zero blue.
