Hi ,
It’s been a long time since my last post...
A new Formula 1, from 1967 (Great year!)
Here are few pics of the engine.https://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02316.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02315.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02314.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02311.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02312.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02313.jpg[brhttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02317.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02320.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02321.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02322.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02319.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02318.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02323.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02324.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02327.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02328.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02325.jpghttps://i.servimg.com/u/f62/12/38/43/52/dsc02326.jpg

I was not that happy with the kit throttle linkage... So I decided to build new ones with machined parts from RBMotion.

It was also necessary to show a bit of interest regarding the exhaust and prepare the white metal parts of the Spaghetti:
https://i.servimg.com/u/f12/12/38/43/52/img_2610.jpg
To prime and paint them:

https://i.servimg.com/u/f12/12/38/43/52/a22c5f10.jpg
Other parts are just treated to be left with a natural metal finish:

I prefer to solder them instead of gluing for evident reasons:
https://i.servimg.com/u/f12/12/38/43/52/dsc02412.jpg
I played a bit with the iron in order to replicate weld seams :

The mesh over the stacks is now done, and I must admit it was pretty fun to form and install: I’m mot unhappy with the result.
Oils have also been applied on the heat shield as well as a portion of aluminium tape on both external sides.

Pascal, wonderful work. The engine looks real.
Terrific scratch additions as well - I bet drilling for those individual rivets was a pain!
How are you going to polish the paint after with all these rivets?

Good evening,

Thank you very much Mates!

I must admit that there were few holes to drill...
But adding rivets is a great enhancement and I’m used to do it on all my models, mainly on 1/20th.
Regarding the clear coat, this is not really a problem as I never polish my models

I worked a bit on the small metal tanks and others parts that need to be cleaned and polished.[br]Fuel filter/distributor and water expansion tank.
I also made a quick test of the pedals on the front bulkhead.https://i12.servimg.com/u/f12/12/38/43/52/487e0210.jpghttps://i12.servimg.com/u/f12/12/38/43/52/2b6d2410.jpghttps://i12.servimg.com/u/f12/12/38/43/52/c4da4e10.jpghttps://i12.servimg.com/u/f12/12/38/43/52/9304d710.jpg

Phenomenal work as usual!

One thing that always makes your work a real stand out for me is the quality of the black wash; it's just so perfect. Mine will never lay perfectly in the crevices like yours. Can you tell me what paint and thinner you use to create it and perhaps say a little about your technique?

Thanks, and looking forward to more,

Hi,
Thanks a lot Ianc ;)
I use fine and extra fine artists oils, mainly from W&N, Rembrandt, Sennelier.
Zippo or BP lighter fluid is my favorite thinner, but any brand should (must!) work.
Dilution depends on the density/thickness,fluidity I need or the effect I want (I’d liked...) to reach.
The more diluted and fluid the mix is, the more smooth and easy the flow is and/but the less dense the color is... Hi fluidity = transparency.
You can also play with the type of “wash”: Heavy one like a “lavis/filter” or more to extremely precise one.
The first one can modify the color, even if it’s a slight modification, and let a deposit in engraved parts and at the back of parts in relief.
The other method is to use veeeery thin paintbrush and extremely fluid oil mix and apply it at a precise area with the tip of your paintbrush.
It will flow very easily on smooth, gloss or clear coated surfaces.
I hope it will be of some help and that my explanation are sufficient...
As I often say, sorry for my poor English as it’s not my native language.

Hi Jaykay!
So glad to read from you!
Weld seams on the big front tank are “home made” with iron and low temp solder.
Those you can see on the small expansion tank are from Top Studio, 1/20-1/24 Scale. The exhaust 3in1 weld seams are Top Studio 1/12.

Thanks Pascal, that's very interesting! I've never heard of using lighter fluid before. I do use artist's oils, and have tried thinning them with turpentine (too smelly and toxic) and mineral spirits. The wash seems to flow well when I put it on, but tends to clump up in little blobs as it dries, which ruins the effect.

I'll have to give light fluid a whirl; thanks for the tip!

Good evening,

Few progress on the Red Roaring Beauty!
Riveting the bathtub and the bulkhead is now done.
The wooden shifter knob is clear coated and test fitting is mandatory for the engine/cockpit/body subassembly.

Hi,

Thank you! ;)

It’s been quite a long time since my last post...Sorry.
Aircraft can’t wait!!

Still progressing on the Chris Amon Ferrari.
The fitting holes and the front Ferrari logo area are masked.
I had a little « spot » on the Red, so I sanded it and made a touch up.
The dampers looked to simple for my taste.
I used modified F1 Specialties brass electronic connectors and chemically burnished them, then put a center adjustment screw and finally install the knob on the damper.
A Koni decal add a nice looking detail.
Aaaaannd, there is a new kid in town!
0.3 flat pattern: tested today and happy with the result😉

voilà.

Hi,

Thanks for kind comments!

A last sanding session on the metal body, then:
- Primer,
- Giallo Modena,
- Rosso Corsa.

Also started to spray primer on the first 200 metal rivets.
400 left to do... before GM&RC.
Few of them will be White.

Thanks a lot for the kind comments.

Small progress ...

Preparation and installation of the hose and the serflexes on the pipes of the cooling system.
The tightening of the collar is simulated using aluminum foil and a piece of welding wire.

Same preparation for the 2 cooling scoops.

Hi,

Few progress and improvements.
I wanted to rebuild the anti roll bar with brass, but the original is good and almost hidden behind the tank...
The grills are installed on the radiator and the simulated inside tubing is still visible.

Hi,

Thank you ;)

I made and temporary installed the soft fuel cell. We call it Bladder for aircrafts...
It was not modeled by MFH and, even if the polished metal part is nice, the front end was too empty for my taste.
The fuel cell fills the both sides and the front body above the pilot legs.
I made it from self amalgamating tape which depicts pretty well the rubber bladder.

Then, rivets..
I finally installed about 300 and need around 300 more.
So I primed, painted and varnished those ...300 rivets.

Good evening Mates,

A sincere big thank you to everyone for your patience, your interest in this WIP and your comments.
I'm glad you liked this montage.

That's it, the last touch-ups are done, the last parts installed and the last minute adjustments made.
So I redid the wedges that support the Belle with a slightly increased "ground clearance".
They are turned in a 10mm aluminum log for more solidity and stability, the Baby is doing well: 1.4kg
... and decorated with Cavallino.
