2006 Corolla Automatic Kicks Like out of Gear

After warm up, when I slow down and then try to accelerate, if the car is in 1st gear, the car seems to kick like it was out of gear and then it catches. If I'm really careful I can sneak up on the gas pedal and it doesn't kick but it's difficult to do. I have about 140 K miles but the problem has always been there from when it was new. I'm not the kind of driver who drive the car hard at all and have taken good care of the car.
I checked the the trans fluid cold and it seems like it has too much fluid. It's up to the hot line.
Could that cause this problem or is there something else I should check or adjust. Otherwise, the car runs fine. No error codes.
Thanks in advance.

It's normal to check the fluid level after the engine has been run until it is hot. Check the dipstick at the hot levels.

Bring the fluid to the proper level.
