Corrrado did an excellent build of this car based on the Tamiya kit. Scale Production also did a body trans-kit based on the Tamiya. I'm trying the conversion using the Fujimi kit so I can build it with an engine.

Combined parts of the '76 and '85 Turbo wings to create the SCRS.

Hi JC,
It is great to see you start this epic model as well! I don't know the Fujimi kit myself but I guess, with the given engine detail you will make a superb build of it!
I sent you a message in private.

This will be great I am sure. Which livery will you choose ?

Maybe the rear spoiler could be reworked ?

This is Corrado's build with the right rear hood:

Corrado's build was great. I'll still need a bit of shaping on the notch but for the most part I am happy with the wing.

Appears there was some wing variation during the SCRS's competition career.

If you build a Rothmans SC RS, the sole variations were in the colour of the wing's grille. The shape was always the same. I have studied tons of pictures over the years. The other famous rally SC RS were belgian ones : they wore cigarette liveries too, Belga and Bastos, and had different wings (2 different types for the Belga following it was 1984 or 1985 season, the RS 3.0L type for the Bastos). ;)

I would be interested is seeing any photos you care to share of the Bastos /Belga wings

Hello JC and Chris, I shot some top-view photos of my SCRS rear wing with measures, maybe it can be useful. The Rothmans SCRS had few variants but only in color, the grill was white or black and the outer, soft edge had the white/black variations as well. JC, for the Belga/Bastos version, you have to look for Droogmans' or Snijers' Porsche and it loos like it either had the above black edge/white grill version or the one with the small rear grill, you have on the middle one (as seen on the photo with the flaming Porsche) or some photos shows the "ducktale" (last two photos). I am not a Porsche expert, might be wrong though...

Paolo not aware of decals available for the Bastos or Belga SCRS. Belga decals are available for other cars, they might work on the Porsche.

Hi Corrado, these pictures summarize well the specificities of the belgian Porsches. Btw, the last 2 pictures do not represent an SC RS but an SC group 4 (hence the duck tail) during Snijers' last appearance (and win) in 1983 (Rallye du Condroz, I was there !)

The Belga Porsche in 1984 (like depicted on the photo above) share the same wing as the Rothmans one but in 1985 RAS Sport the tuner made a mix of this wing and the hood from a stock Turbo 3.3L :

http://www.tout-le-rallye.be/forum/images/upload/talbot/droogmans-joosten_1985_187.jpg

http://alphamodels.be/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/OTTO-OT676-Porsche-911-SC-RS-Ypres-1985-Alpha-Models-Waterloo-Brabant-Wallon7.jpg

Rothmans, Belga and Bastos decals were available at one time at Renaissance models. Don't know if it's still the case ?

Old liveries were so much better than new ones.

Glad to read someone who shares my opinion ;)

They were, at least, more "readable" and recognizable. Nowadays, 75% of Le Mans cars (for instance) are black (or dark grey), white, red and display zillions of totally unknown small brands. :'(

Belga is a pretty iconic livery. Mind you, not as much as Jager or Gulf, or BMW Motorsport, but awesome nonetheless. The only modern livery that has the same level of cool to me is Red Bull. Hard to mistake for anything else.

Hi JC, great job on the wing! And great choice on the livery! :) Belga was a frequent sponsor in rally from the end of 70's which looks superb, especially on an iconic car, like the Porsche! :)

Beny Fernandez in Spain : it was not a real SC RS, although period correct. More of a "spec built" car.

The Belga appears to have used Ronal Turbos.

Yes, but in 1985 only. And often with Fuchs at the front.

I prefer to use the chassis and 1-piece rear suspension from the curbside kit, makes adjusting stance simpler and locks in the engine position. I open the area around the engine bottom then modify the Enthusiast engine top to fit.

The rear wheels appear to be cast with a domed shaped grease cap which would not be present at the rear hubs so I drilled it out.

Opened the torsion bar access in the rear fender just ahead of the rear wheels – Porsche race cars almost never have these covers in place

Subtly re-shaped the rear wheel opening - thought they were too flat at the top

Working on the tires to soften the square edge of the tread surface and knock down the sheen
