Need help with wiring I think? On 89 crx

Hello I have an 89 crx si that I need help with. I'm a base level mechanic and have been doing my best to figure out the starting problem on my crx. I've changed the starter and tested it and it's fine but when I turn the key sometimes it started and sometimes it just clicks. If I have someone turn the key and I touch the wire that goes into the sylanoid and the brass bolt on the starter it polarizes it and it will turn over several times even after I turn it off and wait a day. But then I tried to turn it over several days later it nothing just a click. Now when I have someone turn the key and I test the wire going into the sylanoid when the wire isn't in the sylanoid the test light is much brighter and when it's plugged into the sylanoid it's way dimmer witch makes me think something is pulling juice from it or something? I thought it might be the ignition switch cause I herd those go bad on these older Civic/crx but I don't know. Any help would be very appreciated!! Thank you

As a temporary fix you could install a push button to the starter to see how it acts. With it you will have clean contacts and it will at least give you an idea on if the ignition switch is a place to investigate.
