need new oil plug

The last time I had my oil change the mechanic said that the some of threads in the oil pan were broken. He suggested to drill and retap the pan to the next size. I did some research, I think the existing plug is M14-1.50 does anyone know the next size. Is there some other way to repair this? do you need special tools, there not a lot of room to work.
