a\c question

Does anyone have a 92 civic with R-134a a/c. If so could you tell me the number on the compressor, it should start with TRS or TRF, and the model number. I was told that any 92-95 compressor would fit but the fittings are different, so Im trying to find out which compressors came on 92 civics....

if your car isn't converted to r-134a the fittings will be different. just go buy a conversion kit at autozone or something and you should be all set.

No he's talking about the actual lines, I've heard that too. Take it to a honda dealer and ask them, you don't have to buy it from them just get the part number. All the R-134 adapter does is connect to the top of the condensor.

Exactly zippeay, the only thing the conversion kit does is change the service ports. I guess I will have to go to a dealer to get the model number for the compressor.

I know there are two different kinds, I had to do the same thing when I hooked up my A/C. I know one kind is a Nipodenza and I don't remember what the other one is. Well good luck

the two choices were Nippendenso and Sanden, you cant mix the two compressors either, so if you have a sanden compressor you need another sanden, cant use a nippen.

I just had converted mine to R-134a, my buddy actually did it for me free of charge when swapping in my engine. Of course, my AC has always sucked ass, so I don't know. It's converted correct though, so my not-very cool (as in room temp most of the time in the hot summer) AC must be a different problem. Sometimes it gets cool quick, other times the damn thing doesn't seem to blow cool air. Sometimes after driving for a 20 minutes the cool air stops and it's warmer air. Do you think it's the compressor? I can't imagine I need to re-charge it with more R-134a. It got converted and re-chaged with it last summer, and got a new compressor o-ring at the same time. Any Ideas?

Sounds like the compressor, or mabey your belt is loose. Its hard to tell, does the compressor ever make any noise? If it squeels sometimes the bearings are probably shot in it.

Thanks for the info Zippeay. I think the it's the compressor making a little noise, but I could be wrong. I'll turn down the stereo and listen more closely next time:biggrin: If it is the compressor, are those expensive to replace? like how much money are we talking to do it?

$422.00 at www.hondaautomotiveparts.com brand new, or you can go to a junk yard but you run the risk of having it not work at the junk yard. Thats a really good price from that web site trust me normally their like 600.00

Thanks Zippeay. I think I am gonna make sure that it is indeed the compressor first. I want to make sure that's the problem or the only one before I go shelling out $422 or $600. I had a feeling they were that much, but I was hoping otherwise. Of course, it might be a little while before I can afford $422 or $600. With my luck by the time I do winter will be here, lol. I guess then I won't have to worry out my a/c doing only intermitant cold air, lol.

A/C's only a restriction on your car anyway, who needs it, lol. I say that and its like 1,000000000 deg. here right now. Would be nice to have it now, I dumped my A/C actually I just never hooked it up again when I did my swap. Anyway good luck

I know what you mean about A/C being a restriction. After I did my swap, I was going to the coast with my girlfriend, and had the A/C on. It was one of the not so- often times it was actually blowing cold air, lol. Which was good cuz it was hot as hell that day. Anyways, we come to the coastal mountion pass, and as I am going up, I am thinkin, damn, my engine is bogging, WFT?? I was trying to pass this car, and I was going ok, but not like it shoulda been. She's like, click...turns the A/C off, and the car took off. It made a huge difference in power and torque. I had no problem getting past the car then. I had forgotten I had it on, since I don't use it all too often. But, damn, the difference having it "off" made. I suppose it would be a little more of a difference if I had just damned it. But at the time, It seemed like a good idea to keep it, since I was getting upgraded to r-134a for free. I suppose if it worked better, I might use it more, lol.
