Ford ranger won't throttle correctly

Need to know what to fix.
Truck is a 2.3 carburated. It has new timing belt, ignition module, sometimes it barely would idle or it would idle at 1800rpm. But it would straighten out if shut it off and restart it.
Now It has decided to do something else. It will start and idle fine unless you press the gas pedal it will simply sound like it runs out of gas. But if you can manage to get the truck to move before it dies and push the pedal to the floor it runs like a little dragster I can't drive it around wide open. it runs fine at 75 mph but misses and looses speed if try to do normal driving. Any ideas

Today if the weather warms up I will see if I can clean the carb. I just believe if it was the fuel pump or filter it would simply run low on fuel and die. So I will clean the carb.
