^^^ Just like the topic says. I learned about a year ago when I was about 15 and a half. The reason Im asking is because it seems like only about 10-15% of the people at my highschool can drive stick, so Im jw when everyone else learned.

I would have been 15 the first time, in my grandpa's 1989 Jeep TJ the most beasty sounding I-6 out there for some reason. Never really caught on until later that fall (Picked up learner's permit)

As for that percentage you noticed 99civic03, same at my schoool except it's about 10% for my grade (150 students) and maybe the same for the rest of the school. It's pretty bad.

I learned when i was 13, on a 92 Accord, just driving around the neighborhood. Took awhile to get it, but it all of a sudden just clicked, and I love stick. After giving the 92 to a family member, I received a 93 SE (auto) when i was 15. I drove that for a year, and now im back into a manual (6-Spd!), and i love it.

When my dad bought my first car I told him to make sure that it is a 5-speed that way if I don't drive a stick then I don't drive. I made myself learn. All the cars at our house was a 5-speed.

Had a Honda dirt bike when I was 12, learned the basics there. The first vehicle I drove with stick was when I was 15, my dad's DUMP TRUCK! And this is no little 2 ton pickup style dump, it hauls 8 ton. 72' F600, 10 speed, it's a beast. It was quite an experience.

I learned when i was 12 on my dad's 93 miata silver anniversary edition. It was gonna be my car when i turned 16, but he crashed it into the supporting column of a bridge. The guy who cut my dad off fled the scene, what an asshole. Oh well, that would have been a pimpin first car.

Learned it when i was in 8th grade, i was about 13, a old hyundai. Remember i had to learn to balance the damn clutch on a big friggin hill! That shit was scary like hell when the car rolling back and you don't know what the heck you doing with the clutch and the gas :sly: Now it's just clutch and gas on a hill :bigthumb:

My first time was poop. I bought my Integra, drove it out of the lot right into town to the insurance company. Busy city traffic on hilly streets is not a good time to learn. lol.

a 1987 mazda 323 and an 1989 probe. I drive an auto right now so I still don't remember how to turn it off in gear because it's been so long...so I just stall it in a parking space when I drive a manual. :cwm27:

I first drove stick when i was 18. When i first looked at it...it looked so difficult! I think the best way to learn to drive stick is when you take it out alone. For some reason when my dad teaches me i always stall cause he has no patience at all man:tongue:

99civic03

Yeah I know how that is. My dad was such an asshole when he was trying to teach me to drive stick, no patience what so ever.

I learned 4 years ago. My ex-wife (then fiance) got a 93 Explorer sport, she she taught me how.... first time driving it, she had parked it on a steep slope going up, on a DIRT road, and told me to attempt to take off..... WITHOUT SPINNING TIRES....... geez, no pressure there ;)

been driving a manual ever since..... at least until I got my current car..... 1 yr ago.

what are u talking about man? :eek7:

I think, It all depends on either ur parents or where u live. In mexico I learned when i was about 8. Kids in texas could get their license @ 12, but that's bcuz they need to work on the farm or live in a ranch or somethin'. Depends.

learned at 8, Been driving since i was 13, legally driving a year ago.(when i was 16)

Wow, so many of you learning at such a young age, I never even got an opportunity to be behind the wheel of a car until I was 18!!

I finally learned to drive stick a year ago, after buying a manual transmission Civic and needing to drive it home about 100 miles. Talk about a sink or swim lesson.

Ya....i drove it like 4 hours a day tho. Before i drove i watched my dad shift EVERY time, watching his left foot before he shifted and then saw him switch gears let go of the clutch and apply the gas...watched the shift like a hawk. I dunno....i just wanted to drive a stick so badly all i wanted to do was practice:tongue: But of course i still need that extra practice to get to be 100% smooth...still got a slight jolt...working on that tho

Hmm, I can't exactly recall. I was gripping the steering wheel at three on my old man's Farmall tractor, Had a small yard tractor when I was four (cheaper on fuel). I was driving my old man's S-10 and rail since we bought those when I was 11 or 12. Did a lot of private off road comp in the rail.

Three on the tree is just fine, I learned that in a friends `72 Chevy C-10 Fleetside. Had a lot more pick up and go power than most civics I came accros in Mesa. 720k on the odometer on it's second engine. -coyote
