Short throw Shifter

Has anyone else bought that cheap short throw shifter online? it's all over on the internet. I bought one and come to find out that it bends away from me like it's supposed to be made for the japanese models. Now, when it's in neutral, it looks like it's stuck in 5th! I dont have access to a welder so I'm wondering if anyone has ideas of how I can get my shifter facing more towards me. I was thinking of putting risers at the base of the shifting assembly and have it just tilt closer to me. Suggestions anyone??
