Call your local parts store. I live in Canada, so who knows how much they go for wherever you live

get a greddy. It reads in bar, but anything past the 2bar is red, so it could be used as a warning point to where you want to avoid if you are boosting under that. I have one, I'm happy with it. But tend to cost a bit more than the autometers...

Why would you want a guage that reads in BAR , anyway.... I'm used to the psi system , which is why I snatched the tiny BAR guage out of the WRX and installed my Autometer....:bigthumb:

Sounds like to me, if you hit the red, your in trouble

I thought 1bar equalled 14.7psi, but I could be wrong. I'll ask my VW buddy, hes all about bar

Your right. 1bar is around 14.6-7. Red doesn't appear until the 1.5 bar. Sorry for the mix up. There is no way in hell I want to pull pasty that on pump gas. Maybe on C-16, but on pump...hell no.

Have you heard anything about Ractive boost guages? They seem pretty cheap, also a mechanical guage, and read boost & vac. Boost is read up to 30 Psi, :dunno:

cheap price = cheap quality. I wouldn't spend a dime on that shit

How about an OBX type guage? On E-bay for about 30.00. White face and indiglo w/ chrome bezel. 30/30 w/ all hardware.

Have you heard anything bad about OBX? And is autometer considered better than say... Greddy or Apexi??

Talon007
07-13-2003, 10:39 PM
I havent heard anything bad about them, but not anything good for that matter. Its $30 what can you expect from it?

Greddy and Apexi make great guages, a little more expensive than the autometer, but they will work great

Autometer has been in the racing scene for many years. They are also the cheapest of the quality guages . Greddy and Apexi may have such features as carbon fiber faces and specially colored blinky lights , but Autometer guages are straight-forward , and do exactly what they are supposed to do. I would question the long term accuracy of any other guage.

How about the decision between Mechanical and Electronic. Heard mechanical is the way to go. Any truth to this?

RockinWRX
07-13-2003, 10:59 PM
Mechanical is a lot harder to set up. Oil , fuel pressure , water temp mechanical guages require the respective fluids to be routed INTO the cockpit area where the guages are. Unless you mount them on the hood , but it still requires the fluids to be present in the guage to be measured. Thats why most modern guages are electrical , that read sending units , because tapping into and routing dangerous fluids is a complicated process nobody wants to go thru.

But a boost guage, which is mechanical, is no problem to do, I just installed mine today, a peice of cake. I spent more time installling the guage pod:rolleyes:
