Purposefully slashed timing belt?

A mechanic replaced my rear brakes but then told me I needed a new timing belt and he showed me 2 tears on the belt. I quickly snapped a photo of the timing belt (attached), and I thought it was strange that the only 2 tears on the belt was where it was accessible to the mechanic. I inspected the rest of the belt and these are the only 2 tears. In your opinion, was this maliciously done by the mechanic or do you think this was due to normal wear and tear on the belt?
Vehicle is a 2006 Hyundai Accent (122k miles) and I've never replaced the timing belt. Not saying that it's not old but was it maliciously torn?

Tears are jagged, no marks on metal to side. And it's 11-12 years old.
If it is interference motor (??) you were lucky he noticed it.
On Hondas the TB life is 110k or 7 years.
Maybe he spun the engine to inspect the belt.

they do look like actual rips as opposed to straight cuts. regardless, it needs to be replaced now.
