This past Tuesday, the new Sevendust album, "Animosity" hit record store shelves. This is one awesome album. I highly recommend it. And though Sevendust is traditionally a metal band (they sure put on a killer, heavy show), this album is significantly lighter and mellower than their older stuff. Those of you who don't consider yourselves metal fans might even want to check this out. You can catch their first single, "Praise" on the radio.

Rob Zombie also came out with an album (called "The Sinister Urge") on Tuesday, but I've been so wrapped up in Sevendust that I haven't even listened to it yet.

Like Staind, whose new album ("Break the Cycle") this past May was also excellent, these bands seem to be taking a turn towards the lighter side of heavy metal, and rumors are that the new Korn album (to be released early in 2002) will be much the same. Good thing that bands like Pantera and Slipknot stay true to their roots, to keep the flame of HARD heavy metal alive.

I remember seeing Pantera and White Zombie at a concert in a warehouse in Hawaii when I was there on holiday. It was awesome! Only a few feet from the front! :D

What were we saying before about over comercialisation of music?
Heavy metal has never been be very succesful as a comercial enterprise when compared with other types of music. About every 10 years it goes through a resurgance, but quickly fades away again.
As a result the bands have to change to maintian thier Market, or they wither die hoping that they can big again in 10 years. (i.e. Ozzie)

You could infer a lot of things about Heavy Metal from this, but I simply won't comment. ;)

(Im just waiting to buy Echo's  )

Yes, I am double-standard boy. I know very well what I am listening to, and that very few of these bands are not successful save for the said commercial standards in which they are enabled to sell records. I see that very clearly, and yet I still like the music. I am a typical, ignorant consumer when it comes to my metal. There are exceptions out there, like Tool, and I'll throw Pantera in there as well. But in general, I am sucked in. I just am able to step back and see it for what it really is.....

I'm actually looking to get the new Creed album coming next week. If Sevendust is anything like them, then I might look into it.

Like most die-hard metalheads, it is my duty to give bands like Creed a hard time. But tell you what, they played an outstanding show with Sevendust two years ago in New Haven. And I personally love "My Own Prison."

I see Creed as an alternative to metal. Which I can't really listen to for too long a time. A little hit here and there, but not long. Creed got my undivided attention when they did that soundtrack for AE2001, I think it was called. Ever since, I've loved their music. Sevendust, they have a few songs I like, but I have to hear the whole cd before I would consider purchasing it. You know what, why don't you email a list of some of the songs to look out for and I'll DL from Morpheus. See what's what with it.:D

I'll one up that and post a list of good tracks, for anyone else that's interested. Most of these are off the new album (I'll put those first):

Praise
Trust
Crucified
Xmas Day
Shine
Follow
Beautiful
Angel's Son

Denial
Waffle
Track 9 (off second album - I don't know the name of it, but it's IMO the best track on the album)

Too Close to Hate

If you get this list and don't like what you hear, then Sevendust is simply not for you. If you do like this stuff, you might want to give this band a genuine listen.

Metallica is going to be coming out with a new album, hopefully soon. (hetfield being in rehab and missing a bassist kinda makes it hard to make an album)
but anyhoo, i hope its good. So far, i've liked all of their other albums (yes, even Load and RE-Load, they are actaully quite good) so they should let me down this time around. Maybe a nice 20th anneversary box set or something next year would also be something to look forward to.

I hate heavy metal . If you cared .
But i do like

:flipa: alternative and punk.

But that pantera and other stuff that's just guitars and drums and screaming is stupid, everything i like is melodic.

I kind of hope they do too, but as you've already pointed out they've got quite a few hurtles to overcome to get it finished. But I'd be curious to see what they put out now, especially now that being "heavy" is "in" again (despite the apparent trend shown by some bands, many of the newest bands are turning it up a notch).

I grew up loving Metallica, but I started to have very mixed feelings about them once I had a chance to listen to both "Load" and "Reload" enough to let them sink in. I've just moved on from them for the most part and am more of a fan of many of today's acts, though I still love "...And Justice For All," Megadeth, and Anthrax intensely (funny how much flack 'Thrax is drawing now, about 20 years after they formed the band, for their name!).

Creed ----> :apuke: :apuke:

I HATE THAT GODDAMN BIBLE BASHING COMERCIAL CRAP!!!!!
not only is it comercial crap, but they also played up the "were good christian heavy metalers" bit when they started.
How fusken hypocritical is that! god damn fucken little wanna be's

ahem, sorry for the out burst, I know you won't take any offense to it DVS.

What was the Metalica album were they did only Covers? Garage or something? its the only one I like, and possibly the only I would buy, other wise im not really that into my metal.
(however there is some extremly good stuff comeing out of NZ at the moment.)

JD, get onto www.therock.net.nz and listen to thier live board cast at 7:30pm Tuesday NZ time. (11 or 12hrs GMT)
There is an awsome metal show on, presented by a True metaler. They play some comercial stuff, but about 80% of the show is real non-comercial metal, with stuff from all over the world, and at least 30% of that stuff is from NZ. (somethimes it more.)
The show runs untill 10pm.

there's actaully a lot of very melodic heavy metal nowadays. A lot of Metallica's stuff, especially the Black Album has lots of melody. You just hav e to be less close minded aobut it .

I listen to alot of differnet music, but not Creed, fucking cristian music, what has religion got to do with music.

I was about 3 metres from the stage at the Tool concert in Christcurch in June, I love their music but im not big enough to be that close, you cant move and when the crowd jumps you move with them, you have no choice.

I just bought Echoes, I like it, then again ive always been into music that came out before I was born, if your only into creed I doubt youll like it.

A metalllica box set could be interesting, Ive got a CD from a live concer they did in 1998 (I think its a bootleg). I love that Cd its my favourite one of theirs I have (Ive got 8) and on it they play Motorbreath and it sounds sooo good, their skills have improved alot since Kill Em All came out, a new recording of all their old songs without butchering them S&M style would be really popular

Is that the one where they go for a drive in a Ferrari 250 SWB GT, then later try and wind the miles off and drive it through the back of the garage?if not what am i thinking of?

I suppose my freind, you havent heard their first four albums then, have you? I suppose some of their songs are hard rock-ish, but many more are metal. Like, Battery for example, or Master of Puppets...ug, One, good song..

In case anyone in here didn't know, i am the most die-hard Metallica fan in all of AF

Yeah, last time I tried to post in this thread, I was pretty distracted. I don't know how many times I've seen FBDO, and I really didn't think I would laugh at it anymore. But my friend insisted on watching it; I had forgotten how funny it is. I love that scene with Charlie Sheen.

Anyway, Steel you could be the biggest Metallica fan here. I traditionally was, but I have wavered in my love for them in recent years. However, I still think ...And Justice For All could be the very best heavy metal album of all time. Every time I pull it out and listen to it again, I know that it just can't get much better than that for my money.

Initially I thought that as well but the more I listen to it the more I love Ride the Lightning, I think thats better

Although I like One more than ever since I downloaded the music video for it recently
