My wife inherited her mom's 97 Seville recently. It just turned over 60k last weekend. The cruise control works on the first drive of the day for about 10 to 20 miles and then quits for the rest of the day.
The other problem is that the automatic trunk latch stops working sometime. I fiddle with both the latch post and the upper latch mechanism for awhile and it will start working again, is there a fix for this?

Check the connections in the cruise circuit, including the brake pedal switches (multiples), plugs and connectors, and the center brake lamp - The cruise will drop out if the center brake lamp circuit has resistance which is too high. If an LED lamp was installed in the center brake lamp, replace it with a stock incandescent.
Does the trunk latch have a remote release as well as a motorized pull-down, or only the release?

Is the problem in the release function or the closure?

The problem is during closure. You can manually depress the deck lid all the way but the auto pull down sequence does not begin and the latch will not latch.

It is likely that at some time someone slammed the trunk lid not knowing it was an auto pull-down and broke the switch/plunger in the mechanism. It's pretty common. Sometimes the nylon gear also suffers damage.
