ford website isn't very intuitive for this stuff..
my 2016 limited i bought used, is still running ver 1.0 . i would like to update it to include the android auto. enabled auto updated and wifi connected at the house. automatic updates don't seem to be doing anything. if i click to manually update "mobile apps" the screen just spins until i cancel.
i read that i can update via usb but can't find the file . anybody good with this stuff?

Have you tried this?
https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync-3/software-updates/how-to-install-sync-3-updates-with-wi-fi.html
i did.. never worked. i assume the never ending "updating" icon was the large download never finishing, and i wasn't going to let my car sit running for hours in the driveway.
i found out how to download to a usb flash and updated that way.
the whole process took 45 minutes in the car while i drove home from work. Android Auto is AWESOME!!
the ford website, instruction, and feedback from the car during process itself sucks. but thanks for commenting.
