vr6 swap in a 4 dr golf

i'm not only new to this thread but also to vw's. I wanted to know if anyone had taken a vr6 and place it in a 4 dr golf. i'd like to get a a4 platform or mayb an a3. ANy help would be appreciated. i wanted to know because i want a newer 4 dr so i can have to room for my baby and it's seat but also have to power or the vr6. thanks

find a 4dr 1.8T ('00-'01) and chip it. you'd be impressed by the performance, and the fact you saved the $7000 or so for a good swap.

Some people on VWVortex have dropped VR6's into mk3 golfs, mostly for shock value .. having 4-lug wheels but the 2.8 is unique and surprising.

But the older 1.8T in mk4s has 150 hp; the newer one has 175 or so ... and older VR6s are 172!

Also, the TDI has only ~90 hp, but ~155 lb-ft of torque .. I haven't driven/ridden in one, but I'm sure with that torque it has good pickup, not to mention 50MPG!

Whatever you get, its still a Golf, so its all good :) I just have a 2.0 but even that is OK, more pickup than the civics I used to drive anyhow!

Can i put a newer engine in an older model golf.?? (ei) swap a 95 GOLF GL 2.0L with a 98 GOLF 1.8T????

yes u can put a newer vw engine into an older vw . as long as its not a bug..

I saw one on ebay a few months ago. The conversion looked pretty slick but there is a LOT of modification involved: cooling system, transaxle, electronics, suspension, mounts .....

There is a shop in Tampa that will do it all for $5500 and you end up with a stock 172HP VR6. But you can get a custom Neuspeed supercharger for the 2.0 for $2500 and with a 260 cam you'll have the power of a VR6 but without the extra weight or hassle of a conversion, not to mention a USABLE, flat torque curve with low end that no turbo can provide. It's easier and better not to mention usually cheaper to go stock if you can. I love my 4 door and this is the easiest and cheapest (and I believe best) way to get the performance where it needs to be - plentiful and on tap from idle to redline.

how hard is it once u get the 1.8t (from a 98 or newer) engine to get ur car (older model such as a 97? and how pricey can it get to install the *%$
