I have a 1998 Chevy 5.7 vortex engine, not sure of the miles as it has been replaced before I bought the truck. Problem is I've replaced the can shaft sensor two times, distributor gear, cap and rotor, even checked the timing chain (it seems good) and my truck is still throwing a bad can shaft sensor code and she has a hiccup as we're driving along. Any suggestions?? Thank you in advance 😊😊😊

if over 175K miles on these the distributor bearings are shot. the cam shaft sensor code ? what are all the codes , that you pulled ?? distributor cam gear replaced how did the OEM gear look ? did you use the GM gear ? how many miles on engine ?

Was the distributor trigger phased properly when it was installed? The CMP signal should trigger after the CKP pulse. This can be checked with an oscilloscope or meter, or can be checked with a bi-directional scanner.

If the wire harness is defective, it might throw the same codes as a defective sensor, even if the sensor itself is OK.

As said, I'm fairly sure the distributor has to be re-synchronized using a scan tool if the distributor is removed.

The distributor CAN be synchronized with a bi-directional scanner, but it doesn't have to be. It can be done with a meter or 'scope. Physically moving the distributor (there is a little adjustment on the V-8s) should get the rising signal events back in step.
