HI guys I have been reading some of the posts and was trying to figure out some of the mods you guys did to your cars and it realy sounds impressive

well what i m asking for is some help with the mods that i could do to my car I got a 2000 GTP @ 16000 miles and i wanted to do some beginner additions like a 3.5 pulley, ram air etc. something thats not pricey and will give me some improvements over the other billion grand prixs' on the streets please let me know what are the best things that i can do without spending so much money and not getting into major engine and transmission rebuits. thank you guys

It sounds like you mainly want appearance mods. In addition to the pulley and ram airbox, here a few to get you started:

Ram air hood
New spoiler
Painted brake calipers
Badge overlays
Larger rims
Tinted taillights
Custom grill inserts
Hyperwhite bulbs

My first suggestion would be to determine if you have a local Grand Prix (or GM W-body) club. I've purchased a few of my mod parts from fellow members of my local GP club. Saved a TON of money buying used, mint condition stuff from guys who were ready to step up to the next level.

So far I've done the following mods to my '02 GTP (In order of completion):

- Red "PONTIAC" rear overlay decals
- Red "GTP" door badge overlay decals
- Hi-flow stainless mufflers with dual round tips
- 17"x8" Borbet Type M wheels
- 255/50/17 BFG Comp TA Tires
- Rear STB
- Thrasher CAI Kit
- 3.4" Blower Pulley
- Gatorback Blower Belt
- U-bend replacement
- 180 degree Thermostat
- Front STB
- 35% Tint (All around)

The most "Bang for My Buck" has been realized by the CAI (In my opinion)

When you say RamAir are you talking about a Cold Air Induction (CAI) setup, or are you referring to the actual RamAir hood and air box set up? Big difference in price!! CAI runs about $250 US and the RamAir hood and box run about $1200 US plus whatever it costs to get the hood painted to match your car. There is a low dollar alternative to both. Alot of GPers have installed a fender well intake setup. It consists of a 7" K&N cone filter and PVC pipe. It's less attractive than the other two options but quite effective. Using this setup does carry certain risks though relative to driving through standing water.

If you swap pulleys, make sure you use the proper tool for removal and installation. Also, if installing a smaller blower pulley, do yourself a favor and buy a Gatorback belt. Definitely worth the $20!

Depending upon your atmospheric conditions, altitude, skill level at racing etc., you should be able to run mid 14's with just those two mods, CAI (or fender well intake) and 3.4" pulley.

thanks carnutcass for that info
yeah the ram air i was reffering to was CAI i was thinking about the ram air but its too much money maybe in future when i start thinking about the appearance of the car.
so u say that the 3.5 or 3.4 pulley , the belt and the CAI are enough to make that car run mid 14's .
what CAI would u recommend there's a few i have found Thrasher, SLP, and motorsport. they are all about same price so its a matter of which will be better
and btw are those mods safe (for engine, tranny, SC)or is there a bit of risk let me know pls
thanks kriz

I bought the Thrasher CAI because I thought it looked the best. I think the MSP may actually be a little better because of the thermal wrap, but I'm not really that worried about shaving hundreths off my 1/4 mile time. They're both really easy to install.

Be ready to hear that blower scream when you get into the throttle. It's a really sweet sound. It's amazing how much the factory air box muffles the sound. Not only is the sound intoxicating for you the driver but it can be somewhat intimidating to Mr. Mustang GT who might try to get froggy at a stop light. The blower whine is quite audible from outside the car.....but not so loud as to get you a ticket or anything like that.

I personally believe the CAI is actually pretty healthy for your car since the factory airbox is really restrictive. Don't count on better gas mileage though because I guarantee you'll be in the throttle more often just to hear the blower. Fuggin' gear heads....I guess we're all like that!

Everything I've read suggest that the 3.4" pulley is best for someone who plans to drive the car and occasionally run it at the track. The 3.25" pulley will allow the blower to run above it's redline.

I bought my stuff from www.pfyc.com .

Most gtps usually run mid 14's to high 14's stock, so I would think that the 2 mods (cai and 3.4 inch pulley) would propel you into the low 14's, and if you lucky, high 13's in perfect conditions with a perfect launch. Drod was able to run high 13's with just a pcm, 3.4 pulley, and thrasher cai.

Ooh...a mods thread...right up my alley! I'm looking into mods for my car right now, I've had it a year and I haven't done anything to it yet (Darn all those people wanting me to actually -pay- for parts  )

Right now, I'm thinking about having the heads port and polished, pulley swap, CAI (but I want the Ram Air hood, I think it looks sweet), PCM swap, and Borla full cat-back exhaust for performance mods, and I want the reflective letter overlays for the front and rear fascias, Street Scene grilles, and Altezza-style taillights (I've found everything I want at www.pfyc.com) for appearance mods. My car is black with graphite leather interior, and I want red racing stripes.

As for Mr. Mustang GT getting froggy at a red light, my best friend, Mr. '92 Camaro RS gets froggy sometimes too, and it's so much fun putting him in his place. It just eats him up that my 4-door GTP can outrun his car.

Anyway, I'll shut up now...I'm rambling

those '97 grand prix's can go, that's a fact. In the michigan grand prix club there's a man named "zooomer" and this is his 1/4 mile time...

11.791 @ 115.88 mph.. that's a quick grand prix.

Yeouch. That's one quick GP. I'd give my eye teeth if mine would go that fast. Maybe one day...if I don't taco myself around a telephone pole...

go here, and click on the movies, there you can see a killer GP burn out, and a 10.99 sec. GP the movie on the botton is the 10.99 and the red one is the burn-out
