4L60e compatibility between years and models

I'm trying to find a used transmission for my 1995 Suburban 5.7L K1500. I know it has the 4l60e and I'm just trying to figure out if I need a 4L60e from a specific year range or if any 4L60e will work?

Being my 95 is before the switch to Vortec, do I need to 4L60e from a throttle body injected Suburban or can I grab one from a "newer" Vortec era Suburban? How about a 4l60e out of a Silverado, is that something that would be compatible?

Long story short, in my area I've found several 2002-2004 era 4L60e transmissions already removed and read to go, I'm just wondering if those would work in my 95 Suburban.

Would the dealer parts department be able to help me figure this out?

Any tips/resources for this information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

An independent transmission shop would probably be of more use in identifying compatibility.

I know there are difference in the valve body solenoid resistances which occurred right around that time. A newer trans would have a different TCC operating scheme as well, and the 1995 PCM may not operate it properly.

1995 is OBD1 so if you get a OBDII vehicle tranny I doubt it will work.

take picture of the tranny connector .. if it matches then it should work. consult a tranny shop about these issues since there are many changes in a 4l60 over many years of production.

post back what you found .

Can a 4L60E transmission from a 2001 Yukon be swapped with a 4L80E tranny?
