2006 Kia Optima, loud knocking noise, engine shaking

Hi, I have 2006 Kia Optima 2.4L

My car recently developed a quite ticking noise at low revs and got louder as I increased the revs. Also I noticed the low oil pressure light would come on when idling.

I thought it might be a timing belt issue so I started trying to fault find it with a mechanic friend. As he revved it up (3000 or so) it started banging loudly and the engine now shakes badly when idling whilst sounding horrible. It sounds bad enough that I dont want to run it.

I checked the timing belt with the marks at TDC and #1 Cylinder at TDC with a screw driver down the whole. It looks like its spot on.

I checked compression dry and I got 190 160 160 and 190 PSI. So it doesn't look like any of the valves are bent out of place..

I thought EGR but it would cause the vibrations.

Does anyone else have any ideas what I could check?

Have you had the engine taken out? That noise could be a couple loose screws or a broken car frame. I'd look at the frame because if it happens to be the frame you might get into a bad accident when the frame breaks and the entire front end collapse.

Sounds to me like you have a spun bearing. Oil pressure being low enough to trip the light is bad enough the knocking noise so bad you don't want to run it is the nail in the coffin.

Thanks for the thoughts, what about the batting being out would create such a bad knocking noise?
