02 sensor

hi guys and girls, somewhere on the old forums I found that the 02 sensor voltage (on the white wire) was 5--8 volts.Well I have 10--12 volts. Does anyone know is this good or bad??Is it more volts or less volts that is bad and why or just a ball park setting.
cheers

I know this may sound like a stupid reply, but i think that depends from one sensor to another. Different brands for example can't be compared.
On the other hand 10 volts is way to much in my opinion. The ECU works with voltages between 0 and 5 volt.
How did you measure the voltage?

Hey Derby,
That one was posted 5 years ago mate :) If you get a reply from that guy, I will be amazed :)
How have you been.

Hey skylineUSA,
As you may allready have noticed I need to wake up:lol: ...5 years ago...
I'm really great. I haven't been much online since my plenum explanation. And I was surprised to see it is still there.
Finally finished my study so now I got the money to start modding my own car. I wanna upgrade a 1.4l turbo carb engine to injection and electronic ignition.
And I wanna see if i can come up with some good comments here.
And how are you nowadays? I see you have done some serious mods on your car. How does it run performance wise?

My car is still a work in progress. You can check it out at http://forums.gtrforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=42
I am going from EFI to Carb, its a lot cheaper to tune, not to mention I can tune it myself :)
Its pretty dead around here, if you do find a good site, send me the link. I am intersted in your project.

I have taken a look at your project page. Waste gate swap? I can't see the pictures, since i'm not logged in. Do you have the pics on imageshack or something? It looks promising. What is your goal and when should the car run?
If have done some testing for IC efficiency.
http://www.priyantha.nl/rtc-upload/albums/userpics/10055/normal_PICT0226.JPG
This is the front of the car. In the bumper there are two round holes (right side). The ic is placed behind the holes.
http://www.priyantha.nl/rtc-upload/albums/userpics/10055/normal_PICT0230.JPG
A picture of the engine bay. In left-above the white/yellow bottle there is the IC.
The doesn't catch much air while driving. So I tested the efficiency to have a reason for a front mount IC that I allready bought. The tests where a kind of disappointment for making a good statement. When I push the car hard the air entering the IC reaches 118 C and is coming out with 61 C (10 psi boost). That is almost 50%... I don't know if my new IC gets over that...
I will keep you posted. I will start modding the engine in October. I have a lot of time and loads of geeky :evillol: friends with experience of changing from carb to EFI. The engine now reaches 120 crankHP @5750 and I want it to reach 200 crankHP ( other IC, Turbo, Water injection, CNG)

Derby,
Just sign on to that forum, that is where I have put all my pics at, nothing special as far as the engine goes. When should it be running, time and money will tell. I am shooting for early Oct, but I don't set time tables since its just a hobby, and I have a 3 month old to take care of :D
As for the ICs, have you tested water ICs? Most of the V8 guys run those. Are thinking of running CNG as a power adder?
My goal is to hit 750/800,with a nice broad power curve. Shift around 6500-6600, and get the car into the 9s, not stripped out like all the other cars that run around here. A driveable auto, that can go to the strip and surpise some people :)

a 3 month old? like in a 3 month old kiddo? If so then I should congratulate you. :iceslolan
750 HP. running 9s with out getting it stripped....that is one hell of a goal. Try to get the torque as flat as possible then you have to shift less. It will turn heads that is for sure. :)
Water IC's A friend of mine has one but the problem is that under big stress the cooling capacity of the ic-watercooler is not sufficient so that warms up the air also. But i have to admit that is has some major advantage when sprinting. But i wanna setup my car for track use. I'm not a sprinter. I'm more a line driving person.
And CNG is the main fuel. And you can fill up the tank at home.
I will sign up to that forum also.

Thanks, he is a cute little guy.
high 9s, like I said, its a goal:sunglasse Shift, who shifts, its an auto:evillol: I think it will be pushing the car, but that is what its all about.
Yep, water ICs and long racing just don't mix. That is a very cool thing about CNG, on top of its octane rating of course.

I must say you have an impressive list of mods.
How do you know so much about cars, and what the best combinations are?
A cute little guy, that is so cool. I guess you gonna infect him also with car disease? :grinyes: Have a lot of fun with him.

The auto I will be using is good for over 1000hp so you do not have to worry about mis shifts, and your ETs will pretty consistant, with a 3200 stall. The stall is not that high, since I lot of my friends run 5000-6000 stalls. I will also be running a two step. It's a 1/4 mile mindset, which is going to be a little different than what a road racer looks for in a car. When a 1/4 guy and a road guy talk cars for what they want, the cars will always be set up differently.
I am hoping for around 600lbs of torque at around 3500rpms, you just can't get that out of a smaller engine. Its cool when a car preloads at the line, and the whole chassis twists, to me that is soooooo coooool :)
My son, when in the garage with me has never cried (trust me its strange), he looks at what is going on, until mom comes and gets him, so I think he will be a car guy. :D

Years of reading about what other people have tried, friends, and working on cars for around 20 years.
I still have not made that that leap of faith in the rotating assembly. I am leaning towars a 358 that can handle 800hp, but I might just spen the extra money that can support 1200hp. It comes down to a money thing. Right now I am building the fule system, which will be good for 1500hp. I like over kill, becase it saves you in the long run.
My biggest issue is my rear end, I know the gears are not right, that is why I am going with a 29" tire for now, until I can find a good Ford 9". I have a nodular 3.50, that can support 1500 easy, its just that I will have to completely engineer the swap, so that adds to the time and money. And when you work by yourself, it takes that much longer.

Don't you think a engine that can withstand more HP is heavier also? And building something for future use can give some problems with making it work now.
I've seen people use big injectors for their cars so they can upgrade easily. good point of view, but the car was a pretty bad ride at low rpms because the injector was opening to long for the amount of air. So mixture to rich and a horrible idleing.
And indeed sprinting and racing are totally different kinds of sport.
How about setting up the suspension for sprinting a 1/4 mile. Just rock hard? Or more like gelly soft? And i have to admit a twisting chassis because of the torque is a beautiful sight.
600 lbs isn't that much really, compared to the power. lbs means pound foot right? (I have to convert it to Nm to compare it :) )
Money is always the problem. But a hobby is worth the time.

600lbs @ 3500 revs :)
Suspension is set up for weight transfer, so it fairly soft, but it goes a little deeper than that. I have not been into the suspension aspect for a while. If I can find some good info, I'll post it up for you.
Heavier, not really. With forged internals, you can still make it fairly light. As for problems with over building an engine, only if you build it wrong :)

Im very interested in the suspension theory in suchs extreme situations. It is a dynamic situation in a very short time frame.
And are you going for a charge cooler instead of a IC. What about water injection?
