why are we downing the d15?

ok not to make anyone mad but i hear alot about people downing the d15b7 motor....well im here to tell you guys that first off some of us dont have mommy and daddy backing us up with their wallet. we are having to do this little by little, and from experiance i have a 1994 civic dx and all i have don to it is add a b16 header, short ram intake ( which will be changed soon ), advanced the timing, widened the gap on my plugs from 1.1 to 1.4, put in a stage 2 clutch and totally taken out my a/c, core and fan. now i have talked to several people but havent dynoed it yet but the many people i have talked to have told me that what i have done has put me to atleast 135 horses.......now that is not alot and i understand that but there is still alot of things that can be done to achieve mor ponies.... like for instance.. i can purchase a 1.6l head from a junk yard for about 150 and then buy some good internals for it, upgrade my fuel system consisting of fuel rail, a fuel pump, new fuel injectors, and a new intake....then there is the other internals like boring the engine and dropping in some new pistons....now with all that done you are still looking at less money than a new si-r ii with 170hp, when if i do all that to mine your not gonna tell me that i cant get way more than that out of a d15 motor. so you guys need to stop doggin these other guys with d15's and just kinda help them out with what they ask.....sorry just had to say this cause it really irritates me when someone asks for help and all you guys can say is do a swap you will spend less money.....i think your wrong...oh and yes i have checked into all of this extensively and it all can be done

i dont know too much about the honda D-series. i think u have done a great job so far. I Hate rich little kids. i am 20 and i got a loan for my car 2 years ago (i bought that baby with 12 miles on it!) i did all this stuff to my car with my own money. i work my tail off-i know u do too. if u want to keep the D15 thats cool, i cant really help you, sorry:frown: . i know down the road u would be happier with the B16- there is more potential.

well all i know is it fit right up to it because the guy i baught the car from put it on and he had to make a new hole for the o2 sensor so right now it is ok but the sensor is in the wrong spot so i am going to be getting a new header for it soon, ( preferably one that goes to my car and motor ) but yes it does fit, and actually i mad a mistake on that cause i was a little steamed by all this swap stuff, it is actually a b18 header, so i dont know what to tell you but that is what it is, believe me i didnt think it was either cause there should be no way that a b16 anything would match a d series but hey some things just work out that way...

B16 and B18 headers are the same at the head bolt pattern and they do not fit the d series blocks. I thought you said that it was a mistake and not a B series header. The only way that you'd be able to do it is with heavy modification.

I smell BS here on the "B-series parts fitting to D-seris head/black..."
DOHC D-series components won't even mate to SOHC D-series stuff. You CANNOT crossbreed DOHC and SOHC stuff, period!

ok everybody i made a mistake and i was lied to when i bought the car because then i didnt know these things but now that i have been coming here i have learned alot so i know that the guy i bought the car from was lying to me so i guess it is a d series header, but i still cant understand why he moved the position of the o2 sensor from the side to the bottom of the header.......SORRY FELLAS I MADE A MISTAKE GEES.....man cant people make mistakes

It's all good man.
As for moving the O2 sensor... I could understand if it was a '96-'00 Civic DX, but on the 5th gen Civics ('92-'95) the header/cat setup is the same on all trim levels. Maybe it had to be moved due to the heder that was installed onto it? That's about all I can think of.

....well im here to tell you guys that first off some of us dont have mommy and daddy backing us up with their wallet.
And then there are those of us that work our ass' off to mod our cars, and instead of wasting the money trying to squeeze the most unimppressive gains out of a economy motor, we step up to actually starting with an actual performance motor and modding that.

You know what? That whole post you put up is all shit. Look at all the mods I have with more HP stock and I dyno'ed my car at 135 crank horse. I was hitting 108whp. You need to learn more about Honda's buddy. I have been working and tuning Honda's for the last 2 years and you do not get very many horses from bolt-ons on Honda's. The other thing is the B16 header will not fit the D15 motor because the bolt pattern is diffrent. Go learn some more about your car then come back and we will have a discussion.

The reason why he had to move the o2 sensor was because the header put the hole for it in another location then the stock exhaust manifold. The reason why I was pissed at this thread is you came in here trying to tell us this bullshit and you don't even know yourself. Some other newbie like yourself will come in and read that and start fixing up thier stock DX motor. Those motors are crap man.

Yes, the amount of power produced is directly related to the amount of fuel/air that is being combusted in the cylinders. More fuel/air = more power.

There is SOOOOOOOO.... much more. Just read around this and other forums, you can learn alot, but don't take everything in forums to heart, there is a good amount of BS. If you want an informative read, check out the Honda Builders Handbook I and II, and Honda/Acura engine performance ( by Kojima ), both are pretty solid.

I put one of those big mufflers on, it is like 6 inches in diameter it's big. MagnaFlow performance it says on it!....:bigthumb:
but the airintake is stock, will that give me any more power?

It will not make more power, but it will help the motor put more of it's power to the ground. I motor makes a certain amount of power, then through the drivetrain and emissions equipment that power is reduced. By freeing up the airflow, you let the motor work towards it potential. In order to actually make more power you have to rebuild things in the inside, cams, pistons, rod stroke, etc...or you can go boost, by forcing more fuel/air into your motor it makes more power, but you should strengthen the internals, since it (motor) is working much harder than it was designed for.

To the original starter of the thread:
There is a reason there is no aftermarket for the D15, because it sucks! I have to earn all my money to go toward my vehicles buddy, so stop bitching and save your money for some kind of swap. You can't boost the engine, it will blow up. It might be able to handle a whopping 25 HP shot of N20, more and it will blow up. It was built so weak from the factory, it was not meant for any kind of performance anyway-only for economy. So stop trying to mod that engine, you are wasting your time. And there is no way you are making 135 HP off those mods you listed. Your car makes 102 HP from the factory, bolt ons only add 2 or 3 HP each on that crappy engine.
SOHC, non-VTEC, only 1.5L=WORTHLESS PIECE OF CRAP
