Deactivating the DOD with programmer

I'm just about at the end of my rope with the oil consumption on this truck of mine,'08 Silverado w/5.3 at 124000 km using 2 to 3 quarts of oil between changes. From what I can gather using an engine flush and deactivating this system is the only cure so I want to know from those that have done it which programmer did you use or which one(s) are capable?

You can program it from kicking on, but the only true way to get rid of the DOD is to swap the cam and lifters as well as the programming.

I would try it and see if the oil use drops. also you must use dexos GM approved engine oil if not then this does occur at a much lower mileage. had a guy with a 2013 65K miles with this problem use some synthetic mix oil rather than dexos spec. if you did not use the dexos oil spec I would buy that DOD tool and also put 5 OZ of MMO into the engine oil and change the oil after a few hundred miles to remove all the sludge which it is reported causes the oil to burn off because of plugged up drain back issues . MMO =marvel mystery oil........post back if it works out .. you have lots of fellow GM truck owners with these issues GM should be sued .

this is what one owner experienced

Used on a 2009 Suburban, that is substantially used for highway travel. Having the AFM disabled has not decreased fuel mileage whatsoever. This suburban was using oil due to the AFM (approximately 1/2 to 1 quart in 3,000 miles) and this is the only device made that can disable AFM without a tuner. After using it non-stop for approximately 4,500 miles - THE OIL USAGE HAS STOPPED - PERIOD! I just checked this morning and the oil has NOT budged. (2009 Suburban 36,500 Miles).

Stealthee I've seen the kits from Summit to remove the DOD components from the engine. The kit is a new lifter valley tray, lifters and head bolts but no cam, although it says a non DOD cam should be swapped in.

jCat I think I'll try one of those bypass units.I'm going to use an engine flush, maybe multiple times,to try and clean as much buildup as possible with conventional oil and once that's done switch back to synthetic.I checked the oil I am using currently and it is Dexos compliant.

the oil I use is mobil 1 synthetic dexos GM spec. best oil I ever used. no sludge and after 7500 miles looks like new.. use the same oil in family members challenger hemi same results oil stays perfectly amber .

that product I mentioned is used by many forum members I have yet to hear any bitches they love the results. DOD/AFM killer ..

I would not use an engine oil flush chemical too harsh. use the MMO as it is an oil with strong detergents to break down the sludge/carbon slowly .. I have used the harsh solvent flushes before on old beater vehicles .. you have to flush the flush ...basically 3 oil changes when you do this ..

I use the Amsoil flush product because my cousin sells that line of oil and it seems to do a decent job.I have thought about Seafoam but don't know much about it's affects.
