Hi everyone,

Started another build now that the 86 is done. Started straight away one the body with the prep, few coats of Tamiya TS-26 and onto the decals. This is up there with the most trickiest liveries I've had to do and inevitably there has been some slight tears trying to get it to for around the body. The other option would be to mask/spray but then I would need to find the colours to match, plus I would still need to do the zig-zag bits anyway.

I also had many problems with the decals for this kit, and gave up after applying half the decals which cracked in many places and I was unable to get to conform to the body contours.

Earlier this year Shunko Decals released a replacement decal sheet for this kit, which provides all markings except the large color areas, which you must paint. HobbyLink Japan has this sheet currently in stock:

I bought one of these sheets but have not yet tried tackling the project, as not sure how to remove the decals I already applied without damaging the paint (I used Tamiya TS spray paint decanted and airbrushed), so I can't tell you how well the Shunko decals work. I found some craft acrylic paints in an arts & crafts chain store that appear in the bottle to be somewhat similar to the colors needed.

Good luck, and if you do try using these decals, please post your results for the rest of us! :iceslolan

I agree the decals are quite challenging, I don't like how the front bumper decals were done, it made them quite hard to line up and even with lots of decal softener and hair dryer it still cracked in places. I'm debating whether to have a go at some weathering to try and cover up some of the imperfections but for now I'll leave it as is. Some progress pics to show where I'm up to.
