Yeah, to bad the were racing 1/8th mile.
1/8th mile is cool, but the car's are so heavily modified they're not much fun on the street. Geared so steeeep!
EDIT: Oh yes... the movie was sweet!

Very cool to watch
About midway through they show that car that has the HUGE wing in the back, MUCH bigger than most rice triple-deckers.
What's the name of that car again?

That's the Plymouth Superbird. That's one rare mofo.
Read about it here (http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/plymouth-superbird/plymouth-superbird-history.shtml) and here (http://www.supercars.net/garages/carlitos/83v2.html).
The wing on that car is actually functional, and somewhat necessary, considering that car is capable of going 150+ MPH in stock form.

Thanks for the info
but here's my only problem
"Although it created quite an impression on the street, the wing did almost no aerodynamic good under 90 mph."
 Where and When in 1970 did a wing that big impress

The only reason there was a street version of the Superbird was so that they could dominate on the track. Automanufacturers have to produce so many streetable versions of their NASCAR bretheren (sp) in order to have that model race on the track. Nothing compared to those cars on the NASCAR courses the years that they were able to race. They had to disallow them to have good competition again...

the thing about most fast american made drag cars is that they go fast in a straight line..which is to be expected from 6 + liters of displacement..but when it comes to turning..and handling dynamics..an s2000 will smoke most of them in the twisities..personally..the true test of driver skill involves all the dynamics of turning, braking, and accelerating in one package.... ... most people will agree... it doesn't take much skill to mash a gas pedal and hold a steering wheel straight for a 10 seconds.... drag racing.. totally boring and pointless if you ask me.. especially those top fuel dragsters..which require an engine rebuild every what.. 5 seconds.. yea... real impressive display of engineering skill there..

If two cars were the EXACT same and they dragged, would they have the exact same times as well??
No, that's driver skill

sure, compare an s2000 to 30+ year old engineering, the 1970 z cars don't fair well against an s2000 either
