2001 Firebird motor problems

I have a 01 firebird v6 3400 series II.
I bought it about a year ago and I've been working on it ever since.
I finally got it to start an run and the motor is knocking loud and squeaking pretty loud. I thought no big deal just rebuild. But I noticed some smoke coming from the passenger side valve cover. Some help?
