2000 Regal LS/189k miles/ Shifter issues / Window regulator.

A) For the past couple of months, whenever I start my vehicle. I wait a minute or two and then proceed to put the car in gear. But when I depress the brake and the top knob on the shifter...it won't allow me to push down and shift into gear. I wait an additional minute or two and WALLA...it finally allows me to depress the shifter knob and go into gear. Sensor issues???

B) My right rear window only goes down about an inch and up the same. So I guess it is only the window regulator that's faulty. So I guess it's safe to say that the window switch and OEM motor are still operating properly. I've researched Ebay for aftermarket regulators only. So my query is. Are the aftermarket regulators interchangeable with the stock OEM window motors?? Will the gears of the OEM motor fit the aftermarket regulator?? I've read quite a few reviews where purchasers of aftermarket window regulators with motors included. Have stated that the motors operate at a much slower speed than the OEM motors. Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you.

A. Either your brake switch isn't working properly or it's delayed (easily verified with a buddy) or the shift lock is on its way out.

B. I usually use aftermarket parts when it comes to things like window motors or regulators. Now I don't go too cheap & get "value craft brand" either. I've never had fitment issues here. There are times I've had issues, but usually from items too cheap... I hope that helps. Oh, as far as slower or not, I can't say I've noticed any differences, although, the Regals I've worked on were older. So I can't give an answer there.

Thank you bellaCuba for responding. I've ordered a window regulator w/motor included from a vendor on Ebay for $56.90 and free shipping. In addition it has a warranty for a year...so that's a plus. Installation should not be an issue for this DIY'er. As for the other issue regarding the center console shifter. I believe it's best to have a transmission specialist look it over. Plus I'm due to have the transmission fluid and filter changed. Again THANK YOU bellacuba for your informative input. Be well.

BTW, that shift interlock is NOT an internal trans issue. Just want you to be armed with some info. Shouldn't cost too much either... part is anywhere from $50-$75 and the labor shouldn't be more than $150. Basically getting into your center console. Not a big deal.

Could be something as simple as an intermittent connection.....those wires flex when the shifter is moved, and can actually break inside the insulation.....if the wire completely breaks, then it won't shift at all......

You can easily tell if it's the shifter/BTSI solenoid.....apply ebrake....turn key to on, don't start, apply brake, and try to shift....if it doesn't, remove the console top, then pop the cable off the shifter .....now pull on the cable...if it moves and shifts the tranny, push it back into park, and then reattach......then you know you have a shifter problem(the BTSI solenoid is part of the shifter, not replaceable), OR you have a wiring problem.....

In an emergency, if it won't shift, there is a small rectangular cover on the console.....remove it, take a pencil and push down on the lever, this will allow you to immediately shift out of gear.....
