Sounds like I have a bearing going out and was going to replace all the bearingsame in the rearend while I'm at it. How do I know what rearend I have?

Look for a small metal tag attached to a bolt on the end cover.

If there is no tag, take your VIN to any GM parts counter and they will be able to give you that information.

Or you can do one of the following:
Read the RPO codes which are usually located inside the drivers door panel or glove box.
Clean off the right axle tube and look at the code stamped on the axle tube.
Chances are it's the 8.6" 10-bolt. Ratio will be defined by the RPO code, and so will the optional lockup carrier.
