Hi guys,
I was searching the net for a ac cobra a long time.
But now I found a guy who produces scale replicas in 1/4 and 1/8 scale.
He got access to a SLS professional 3d printer.
And a buddy of him owns a big collection of classic cars, including a real Ferrari 250 GTO.
He made tons of pictures and measures the hole car.
For some German modeling I ask him if he can do a GTO in 1/8.
And he told me he already did one in 1/8 and 1/4 scale.
He also did a Ferrari 250TR, BMW M1, and now he is doing a Ford GT40 in 1/8 scale.
So here is his mail to me with the prices for the different options.
These prices are only made for the GTO so far. Others will be different.

Hi There,
Got some pics and prices from the GTO. made the price very sharp.
The body cost €395,-
Body with wheels are €595,- wheels from aluminium
Body with the wheels and interior with all the details in it without wires €1070,-
Body with the wheels and interior with the trunk and engine, €2250,-
Body with the wheels and interior with the trunk, engine and the whole frame €3180,-
For a complete car please give me a mail.#
I think, compared with the prices shapeways is asking for a 1/8 Body, his prices are fair.
If you have any question, just pm me and I will ask him for you.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3639313231623433.jpg
Just a sample of the print quality.
I should receive my ordered cobra body in the next two weeks.
Than I can tell you more about the printing quality.
On the pics it looks very good.
The wall thickness is about 1mm. That's just like the real car and not to thick.
This is only a question if here are people interested.
Maybe we can a do larger order from him?
Regards Christian

OMG the future is now ! If only I could afford it... although, as you wrote, prices are fair for the scale.
I'm definitely a 1/24 scale guy though...and not rich enough :icon16:

@chris24: yes this are other prices than from a 1/20 or 1/12 scale kit.
But its way bigger and compared to TDR@shapeways the price is very good.
Now i got some pics from his previous and future projects.

I'd love a Cobra Daytona. But 1/4-1/8th would be way more than I could afford. But if he can scale down to 1/12 I'd be very interested.

The GT40 MK I is just in my mind.
I pull the trigger for ordering when the cobra is here and looks nearly as good as on the pics.
And than for sure in the Gulf livery.
He also does 1/24 scale. But i think he is very busy at the moment.
Sent me a pm for his mail address Paolo.

It's round about 350$ which is not that much for a 1/8 scale car.

Tell you what; if he would pop out a Ferrari 350 Can Am body to go on the Hiro 330 P4 kit (in 1/12 of course) I bet he could sell quite a few. I'd buy one if the price wasn't too insane...maybe 150 bucks or so? Same goes for the Hiro Porsche 917K kit...you could do a 1/12 917/PA body and I'm sure you'd sell a bunch of those, too.
Food for thought....

So what should i say?
It looks very, very awesome. But also very crispy and very fragile.
The hole body is so fragile that this is an problem.
Without some inner spacers as a sub frame its not possible to get the right measurements done.
The front hood hole got a wrong shape so the hood will not fit without some corrections.
Its a big problem, but he will give me some printable template to create a spare frame for the inside.
Maybe i will try to secure the shape with some fiberglass on the inside.
The printing quality is very good. Its made be shapeways.
He works on a solution for the fragile shape of the body.
Will continue with the solution when i got it.

The shape looks really good overall, but in that scale, for that price, the resolution sucks. The parts should be way smoother than that for the money. Can't wait to see it when it's all cleaned up and painted to your standards, Christian. Are you scratch-building the frame and everything else??

Right now i am not sure what i will do with it.
I will use an engine because i want to buy a daytona coupe,a GT40 and i got a Shelby Mustang and all of them needs nearly the same engine.
Want to use the engine from the part works mustangs which is an 287 Ford engine.
Should work,i think.
A frame can be bought by tdr@shapeways
Maybe i use this as a template?
My first plans was to make copies from the body, but now i dont know.
The get the right shape i get an inner cage or tube with the firewall and the wall behind the seats. This should bring the body, when its glued, into the right shape.
