early 90's talons

Im looking for a project car and there is a 91 TSi Turbo AWD for sale and i was wondering how reliable they are and how much hp you can get out of them with out extensive money for modifications

The reliability will depend on previous owners, of course. Look for the transfer case recall being done, make sure it shifts good, the syncros are weak. Make sure it idles good, cold, warm, and hot.

There are plenty of cheap mods you can do. A turbo will probably one of the expensive ones, guaranteed the turbine side will be cracked (they all are), what can you expect after 13 years.

Make sure you check it out thuroghly, and good luck.:smile:

First you have to check what condition the engine is. Do a compression test if u can.
See how the tranny feels. If it is very notchy it might have been abused.
A little notchiness is normal.
These engines are very strong. With a complete exaust 2 1/2 inch and air filter, and a boost controller set at 15 psi ( always use an aftermarket boost gauge, stock ones are garbage) you can easily get 250 to 270 hp which puts you at around 14.0 14.5 in quatermile. With 20 psi and race gas u get easily 300 hp.

i have seen some really wicked talons and not many people really fix them up, they are nice cars and treated right they are very reliable but hey used cars are always a work in progress thats why some of us love them so much,
