2012 Fiesta Radio Issues - Static From Speakers

We have a 2012 Fiesta that the radio will randomly stop working. Usually shutting off and restarting the car fixes it.
Then today I went out, unlocked the car and started getting static and hissing through the speakers until I relocked the car. The key was not in the ignition.
Later I was driving, the radio was not working and suddenly the speakers sounded like they were "shorting out", popping and cracking.
I had to shut the car off and restart it to get it to stop. When I turned the radio on I got the "Ford Audio Welcome" message, but the radio does not work.
Any ideas what the heck is going on?!?

Been doing some searching online and looks like it might be the ACM, audio control module. Does this sound right? Where is it located?

heck could be anything, but i always start with the simple solutions. Check the radio fuse, connection to the battery, then i'd remove the radio to ensure everything is plugged in right. Some radio's have a fuse in them too that you could check.
