After running the car for half an hour to bring it to "normal operating temperature" I still can't read anything on the ATF dipstick:confused:. It comes out clean, no fluid on it at all... EVEN after adding half a quart of fluid.:banghead:

HELP! I don't want to overfill and kill my transmission!:nono:

Oops! EDIT: 1992 Honda Civic 4-door, 1.5L

Did you do tranny work or has it been leaking? If no to both it's odd that it's low but I would say slowly add till you see it

I am not sure about Civic but on my Accord you read the ATF level with the engine off.

No transmission work has been done to that car AFAIK.

I checked the ATF level because it felt like the shifting was a bit jerky. After adding fluid, it felt a bit smoother... But the dipstick is not showing any change. If I look down into the ATF dipstick hole I can actually see the fluid about half an inch from the opening.

I checked the ATF after bringing the car to operating temperature AND turning it off. The manual doesn't specify if the car needs to be on or off, I assumed off.

Thank for the replies.
