Obviosly, I need an SR20 motor. I just got a Datsun 510 from Revell and want an SR20 in it. Does anyone know where I can get one? Do any of Revell's have SR20's? What about ordering the parts to make the motor from Tamiya or Fujimi? I really want this motor, but I don't know how/where to get. Any help would be really great. Thx in advance.

There are no SR20 motors in 1/24 or 1/25 (don't know about any other) scale in existence, or at least available for sale.

I am planning on building one one day, but it's a very long term project. But for now you're out of luck.

Two Webbers were the hot set-up on 510's back in the day (early 70's).
You could use the Revell 240Z motor or even the 300Z v6 from Tamiya...
Maybe cut the 240 motor down to a 4...
Just day dreaming...

psst... forget the import power. Try a 350 small block, or a 454 big block in a 510

hey CamaroSSboy, my 1:1 car is a 1966 Impala SS Convertible with a 327. I want the original 396, but my dad traded it a LONG time ago. So, I'm not against big block power, but I dont want to "Cross-Breed" cars. Domestics with domestic motors, and Imports with import motors. but, i'll pay for an SR20DET if someone is planning making one soon. Thx for your help anyway, guys.

Get hold of a rotary engine out an Tamiya RX7 kit and drop it in there, the rotary was a common upgrade on the 510.......lotsa get up and go then :bigthumb:

Buy a Revell integra and custom fabricate the engine into an SR20.

Thats really all I can say.

Ummm, hate to break it to you but the 510 engine IS a cutdown L series. The four in the 510 is based on the same architecture as the six in the Z cars. Also, the Revell 510 comes with a sweet pair of Weber DCOE sidedraft carbs and is based on the tooling they did to replicate the infamous BRE #46 Datsun 510 that owned the SCCA Trans-Am under 2.5L class back in the late 60's-early 70's.

I should know. I'm JMA!!!! (John Morton Army: superfans of the BRE 240Z and 510. There's over 10,000 of us)

Ummmm...

That's why I made that suggestion!

I've owned both a 510 and a 240z...

Hey, XspudX, how would I make a turbo system to put on a the Revell 'Teg motor? What cheap kits have a turbo?

just order a skyline and use its motor the only difference is twin turbo and .6 liters of displacement with less HP.

This is a pretty silly thing to say. And please stop bringing up old threads.

i was building an RB26 a while ago, and people though the valve cover looked like an SR20. But i am still building the RB for my R33 i have ordered.

its really not hard at all to make a motor. i had the 240z(which i put a 350SBC in) motor, chopped a muffler in half to make the head wider(DOHC). then i used a few bits of other parts to make the shape of the valve cover, then i used putty to make it the exact shape. i used one intake off a ferrari for the intake, the datsuns exhaust manifold. then i used some soldering wire to make th turbos, and intake piping. i used two "steps" from a 55 chevy stepside, to make the intercooler. i used some carb stacks to make the turbo intakes and the belt assembly from the 240z. i'll get a pic sometime.
you should be able to follow the same procedure to make the 510 motor an SR20.

First, sorry it took long for me to reply to this post again.

Second, you could order an R32 from Tamiya, and cut one of the turbos off of that engine and place it on the 'Teg motor and then build the R32 engine with a single turbo conversion. Thats what I would do.

87beastaccord are you willing to sell that? If so how much. it would be cool to try and put that my new silvia.

you could always perform a custom RB26 swap into the 240SX/Silvia models. I did this on my S15 you can check it out here for pictures..

http://www.geocities.com/jdmf_2003/september03.htm

If It was my choice for big HP and money was no object I would do this swap in real life (RB26 into 240SX). In reality I plan to swap a SR20DET into a 240 hopefully this coming year.

now for the 510, I suggest the FD rotary engine too. but if you want a SR20 your kinda out of luck. I know a guy at a shop out here in FL called secret services that performs SR20 swaps on a regular basis and currently holds the record for most HP on a stock SR20DET bottom end (539WHP). I am planning a visit to catalog plenty of detailed pictures of the block valve cover and major engine components so I can get them to chris at SAS. hopefully if I can provide him with enough detailed information he will produce a 1:24 scale SR20DET. Nothin official, but if enough ppl want to buy the engine and chris has the necessary blueprints and diagrams this can hopefully become a reality. I hope I am not causing him any trouble, like I said we have discussed this but chris has never officially said he will build the engine, although he would like to. hey chris, I don't think we're the only one's that want this engine!!!! :dunno:

You don't mean use an RB26DETT for an SR20DET are you? The 2 motors aren't remotely similar.

Another huge difference is the 2 extra cylinders on the Skyline.

Yeah if you used an Rb motor and cut 2 cylinders off of it and used 1 turbo, you would have a very close approximation of the the awesome ca18... hmm.... gots me an idea now. For the trans on an sr(not sure if sr/ca trans are the same) one can use an rb20( or an rb25 even i think) transmission since from my research they are the same only stronger than the sr trans. I have been planning to do an sr for resin casting when I do my sr swap in my 240..I will take some detailed pics and measurements when I do finally get the money to pay for it :) but for the time being use the integra block, 510 or 300zx trans and rb single turbo to get you started.
