Problems with Blackie: '93 C-280

My black '93 C-280 is the subject here. I can't get the trunk to latch; the latching parts may be misaligned, and the the parts on the lid and the frame may be misshapen--using toothpaste (a trick I learned from the manual of a VW Squareback I once had) doesn't help much. Any suggestions?:dunno:
