Engine swap question????

Hey all,
I recently brought my 91 240 into a mechanics shop to kinda tune it or recondition it. They told me that several things namely the timing chain and other things needed attention and adjustments. However, he suggested that because I have over 300k miles on my original engine an engine swap is what he recommends. This is the question>>>>he's telling me that he can put in a 97 nissan truck engine which would fit perfectly..........is this accurate? He says it's the same basic engine.....and the total cost is $1850. When I was thinking engine swap, I was actually hoping for JDM s13 red top.

for $1850 you cannot get a sr swap that cheap be prepared to spend atleast 5g'
the only similar motor that i can think of that will fit fight in is another ka24de motor... i could be wrong tho..
good luck

I agree with turbo2nr that the easiest swap is another KA24DE into it... and besides, the timing chain was replaced on my friend's 240, and it cost him like 2 grand to do it....
As far as the SR swap... there's some guy on 240sx.org that says he can ship an S13 front clip for 2100 or thereabouts, but again, that doesn't include installation... and unless you can do it yourself (the wiring is a big bitch) then you're looking at a big amount of money for the install... I know sr20development charges 2 grand for their work... I'm sure someone inexperienced with SR swaps would charge more because of the wiring...
So yeah... a lot of money for an SR is basically what I'm saying! :bloated:
Call venusauto.com too, I heard they have S13 SR's for 1500, but I don't know?

Nissan truck engine's are also KA24DE, hence why you hear everyone complaining that 240's have "truck engines" even though they're not the exact same engine.

Is there a way to tell 240sx KA24DE's from the truck KA's?
I wanna know cuz I went to a salvage yard yesterday to buy ANOTHER fender and I spotted a KA24DE just laying there..They want $500 for it..
I'm almost positive it's a 240 KA though beacause they have a few chouki 240's in the yard..

NO, dont get that!, get a 97 240 engine instead!, the 240 ones are made in japan and the truck ones are made in mexico....

xatracing looks like a good spot... you might be able to talk them down a little too.
their sr20's were $2700 last week.
