I've got 98 z71. Rear end is leaking. I've replaced the pinion seal and checked the breather hose. It's still leaking. Stopped for a little while after I changed the pinion seal. And help would be appreciated.

Unless something was damaged on the seal mating surfaces (inner and outer portions) it should not be leaking with the vent open. You may have gotten a defective part- that happens sometimes. Occasionally the spring inside the seal will break or become unseated. The only other cause I can think of would be excessive movement of the pinion shaft. Gear oil doesn't play well with most sealants. I use the old-fashioned gray "Permatex", a trace of that applied to the seal seating area when installing the seal always works for me.

with what you have that it did work for a bit I would guess the shaft may have a damaged surface. use some fine crocus cloth to smooth it out.
buy a GM seal . some times the seal is installed so it sits slightly in a different position so it rides on the shaft where it has never been worn down.
if this shaft has too much movement that also will do it.

Look at the seal if you didn't lube the inside of the seal or used a seal driver it maybe crimped. The nut has to be tightened properly.
A long 1/2 ratchet on the socket should be able to just hold vertical without rotating. Otherwise use a new crush washer.
