I've been looking into swapping the engine in a 99 celica GT 2.2liter 5sfe and I was wondering if there were any recommendations other than the 3SGTE also if anyone has swapped already I'd appreciate some pointers.

you might consider a 4AGZE (supercharged)

that would require a whole new tranny. with a s series engine, at least if he has a 5spd he can use it.

you could always get a 3sge with vvti from either a toyota curren or a celica ss3.

true, but the trans comes in the cutout, check out the prices here> Jarco (http://www.jarcoinc.com/inventory/)

No.
Because a big fat heavy Celica would go slower with a 4agze in it.

A 3sgte in either N/A, Turbo, or VVTi or VVTi-L form is about the only option, just choose which one depending on how much money you have to spend.
(and remember that the VVTi engines in the JDM Celicas put out in practice 20-30 less hp than Toyota claims)

big fat heavy celica? HA, sorry, but my celica is about 150lbs lighter than an integra gsr. the 7th gen celicas are almost the lightest cars in their class.

as for the 4agze, HP is HP, torque is torque, the engine weighs less than a 3sgte and with a new pulley, a fmic, and fuel upgrade, a celica will be faster with that engine than it could be with the engine it came with, with about 250hp and instant power on the low end.

all 3sgte's are turbo

all 3sge's are NA, some have vvt-i, none have vvtl-i.

and the only reason the JDM vvt(L)-i engines make less HP than claimed is because when in America, the engine's timing has to be turned pretty far back to work with the 91-93 octane gas here.

in japan they dyno the car with about 105 octane, and their octane rating system is different then ours, which means even their 93 octane gas has more octane then our 93 octane.

good point, was it the ae111 that has a 6spd? does that clip have the 4age 20v or the 4agze

but since he has a GT, a 3s engine would be easier to swap in.
