This is 50% done. I still need some weathering done to it and need to build the trailer. So you can call this work in progress. The tractor is 95% done. Still experimenting with different weathering techniques and some more detailing, like wind deflectors for the front etc.. I'm kinda jumping between projects. so the trailer is still in the planning stages. So here are the pics of the tractor so far:

Thanks gents..still tweaking the weathering on this tractor first. Then i need to add the side wind deflectors. Then a couple more details. Then i will get on with making the trailer for it.

Your weathering skills are astonishing. Did you achieve these techniques overtime from experimenting, tutorials? I want to do this to a VW bus but don't want to ruin a hasegawa kit. Thank you for sharing your build.

Thank you. I got these results within a couple of hours.
Hi there Dave. The crackle mud is simple. I used Humbrol brown earth or was it dark earth( whatever) just spray it on and let it do its thing. Since the tyre is rubber it does not do a good job sticking it well. After drying just flex the tyre a bit until it cracks. ;) Then weather it.
The rust effect was achieved using the 'sponge technique '. I used a two-color brown paint which i sponge over the other. A light brown was laid on first, then a darker one after the first dried. I use Akrylic colors from Citadel. I started using these of rescent and find them the best to work with when using a paint brush.
Then i take a shade color; which is basically heavily diluted, more light translucent amber brown color and brush it on the areas that had the two color browns.
After everything had dried i took some dried mud, i had collected from a near by farmhouse, and lightly dusted on
Some on the whole truck. Then brush on some thinner to make the dust more sporadic and stick to the body. I use real dust on all tyres. Plain and simple.

Thanks gents. ☺Weathering is my thing. I love the wear and tear look on real life trucks.

This is great! Incredible like all your trucks so far. The cracked mud on the tire is AMAZING even if you insist it wasn't a hard technique. It's all just perfect. I can't imagine that spare tire will be of much use, though. What a great model, I can't wait to see the trailer you make for it.

Thanks a lot for the uplifting words. My favorite part of modeling is weathering. I do try to mimic as close to how the real one would look. Shiny trucks are not my cup of tea. Although, they are nice to look at, not model it.

The hits just keep on coming! (hope it translates well -> success follows success)
The ONLY thing I could wonder about is - the tires don't seem to show any weight (flattening on the bottom). Any other build and it wouldn't be a concern but your builds are so immaculate, a small detail like that becomes noticeable.

Hi Greg. Thanks for the comment. Most tyre flats aren't so ' in your face', so to speak. Depends where on the tyres , that got the flat. There is a slit on the corner of the tyre where the tyre walls was weak. But depending on the area and thread damaged, some tyres don't show; as i was told. I have one example i can post but i am on my phone. The process to upload to my photobucket and then post a link from there is cumbersome. Can do that tomorrow.

I meant the (10) rolling tires. They don't look like they have any weight on them. They look perfectly round. Sorry for the confusion.

Ahaa! Ok. Well, most of the trucks I've seen on the net and in real life are not very noticeable. Although i have seen some with a slight bulge when under load. But that is a good idea, thanks. I will see if i can replicate this slight bulge after building the trailer and adding a load.

I have been working on the trailer for the Scania 142H long based chassi for some time now. So far this is where I am. I have finally added the side wind deflectors, which I painted black. I also toned down some of the weathering on the passenger side. Still have a little toning down near the windshield as well.*
*
The trailer was scratch built and it is 90% complete. I have to add more details and a bit more subtle weathering around the trailer. I tried to make it look somewhat outdated by design but yet have a kinda modern feel to the rest of the overall look. I decided on the mix color combo; has the trailer, had been painted unprofessionally several times during it's hard course life. Secondly, I wanted it to be different and stand out.*
*
*
I am making the precast concrete slabs that will eventually be placed on the trailer when done..I am experimenting with various materials. The ones you see in the pics are made from poster boards. We will see what I end up using. The trailer has rest mounts for four precast slabs, which in turn can double up on each mount depending on thickness of the precast slab.
So I hope you like the trailer and the overall look of this tractor/trailer combo so far.*

Brilliant build!!!
Is that frame been extended at all, I cant recall the kit having such a long frame! Anyway beside that the weathering is spot on.
And to comment on the weight showing on the tires....theres no trailer on the unit & when you eventually have a trailer on the model there really isnt much compression on the tires if the trailer is empty.
Thats my opinion & I haul B-Trains carrying fuel here in Canada and when they are empty you dont see much tire squash sorta say.

Thanks for your feedback. The kit was modified. I turned it into a tractor. It's the one with the platform on the back. Just some updates on the trailer. Since these pics were taken I have since removed the stand mounts from the sides and placed them inside the front part of the trailer. The electrical box on the left side has been moved to the front part of the trailer. Width regulation, apparently. :) Will post pics at another date when all is done.

Your builds are so fantastic Charles! Every time I look at them I find new details that lifts mye eyebrows!
I can't understand the effort that must have been put into a build to weather a tractor or trailer up like that. You must plan so many steps ahead...
When reslizing you're from Falun, my admiration just grew bigger :-)

Hahahaa! Tack Joel. Ser du är från Kalmar. Nice to meet you. Thanks for your feedback. I love weathered vehicles especially trucks. I like show trucks but do not building them. I always believe trucks should look like work horses. To me it is more realistic. Doesn't have to be old run, vehicles but weathered nonetheless to make it look it has been on the road for a while.

Hi guys. Here are the some pics of what was done to the trailer since the last time I posted. As mention before, I had removed the electrical box and support stands to the front of the trailer. I also added a fire extinguisher. Instead of concrete slabs I decided to go with steel slabs, Only two. I think I will build a third sheet. Why steel? Well. I saw a haul with several large steel plates being transported in a similar manner and thought I would go for the 'not-so-normal' look, instead. You know me. Different is my middle name. I know there are standard trailers for concrete slabs and steel plates and slabs. But I found out that certain companies, in rare instances, use by any means necessary, quick and unconventional methods in transporting goods, if time was of an essence. I too have seen weird setups that just proves to me that transport methods do differ. Now, if they do not adhere to the EU regulation code; then that's another issue all together.*
The sheet of steel were made from cardboard. The chain tensioners were scratch built. I am contemplating building another short base tractor 2x4 tractor for this trailer. I already have one in mind. Not too sure. But I will build it and see if it suits it better. If not, I will stick to the one I already have.*

Here is the tractor I built just for this trailer unit. The blue Scania 142H tractor unit has now been replaced with this Scania 144L 530 unit. I think it suits the trailer better, especially with the similarities of the color schemes. Hope you guys liked this better.

More 8d a ahelf-type construction. Although I would have prefered cabinet but I have ro make do with what I can afford and have space for.
