Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo Gr.5 1/12

Hi,
after my Porsche 956 is done i started a new project.
Or i had to say that Torsten from http://www.scaleautofactory.com started it for me.

I ask him if he can do me a 3d-printed model of the Lancia Beta and Torsten started it very fast.
So many thanks again to Torsten for his hard work and the great result.
The next car is already in the making!

http://www.scaleautofactory.com/build.php?file=lancia_beta/review.xml

He used a rfactor mod as starting point and made all the construction work.
Every part was printed in his own 3d-printer.
He changed ofter the design for the print parts and at the end i got my dream car the Lancia in 1/12 scale.

My favorit livery is the "Fruit of the Loom" car of german driver Hans Heyer.
He won the DRM champion of 1980 against the Porsche 935 and Turbo Capris with this Lanica.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3137393264643132.jpg

So he started his design with the mod and made it step by step ready for the printer.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3562376365303464.jpg

And after a while i got most of the parts ready for sanding work.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3362323439396533.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3138393465363662.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3261663766306462.jpg

Its a long way to the end for sure. But its easier to do this with that cool 3d technique than by the own hands.
At the moment i started to cut all the windows out and after this is done i will glue the three body parts together.

Thats all at the moment. This will be an long time project because i only do it at lunchtime at work.
My first priority is the finish of my Porsche 956 dual build which will start in a few weeks.
So dont expect too often an update here. This is time consuming.

Hi Christian,

Great work and one of my favourite cars! I look forward to seeing this come together and being able to buy the kit myself - how long until they are available for sale?

One thing on your designs though - the engine and gearbox in these cars are transversely mounted, as per the original orientation, rather than the inline transaxle arrangement you have made. I am sure though that this can be remedied.

Keep the updates coming - I can't wait!!!

Cheers

Many thanks for those great pics.
This was the race where Hans completely destroyed that beautiful Lancia.
Great shots and very helpful.

Yes there will be no copies from me.Its only a project for me alone.
Just sent Torsten a mail when you also want a printed Lancia.

continue with the Lancia.

The windows are out now.I used the Tamiya saw and it works fine.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6663613762306637.jpg

Than i used a thicker spray filler for the body.

How is the sanding process going?

Capri-Schorsch
12-01-2015, 11:21 PM
Hi Christophe,
the main body part is now ready for the final coat of primer.
But first i have to check the missing small details like holes or panel lines.
But the rest is done and its quite smooth.

Thats really not so much work as it looks when i started with.

Some pics will come soon.

Just another small update on the Beta.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3631643063353934.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3036656435383634.jpg

The used 2k putty was sanded to a smoother surface.Just a bit better than before.
So another shot of primer for the body.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6133393062316362.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6138623237356662.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3232356434363334.jpg

Still some putty in use and still some edges where needs for sanding.
But after the windows are nearly ready it looked a lot better than before.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3032313630616466.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3166303933306233.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3963333466303464.jpg

Now is the surface just fine to use the first coat of light primer.
But first i have to check all the small details that are missing.Air intakes, holes and panel lines have to be made first.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3235363938376337.jpg

Here are the parts that are printed by shapeways. The parts are finer than the ones from Torsten, but still needs a lot of sanding.

thanks for watching this!

all the best Christian

After the Porsche is done,i will restart the Lancia project.

Thats how it look like right now.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3661336632626133.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3666366130363661.jpg

The small parts are from shapeways and they are very good. The grill is so small, but very stable.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/6465373062313636.jpg

The rear parts are done and the rear window must be casted in clear resin next.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3065646231636336.jpg

The decals are printed on paper to check the fit of the size next. After that Michael can print me the complete and water slide paper.

great work Chris.
If I can only give you a tip, I would like to mark a little more the edge on the door near the side mirror. It was a caracteric part on this car:
http://www.keysport.it/intra/upload/news/image/scaled/09---FOTO-MUSEO-LANCIA-BETA-MONTECARLO---GR-5_800x600.jpg

the door line under the window comes a little up to the A pillar. Hope you can understand what I mean.

Capri-Schorsch
02-04-2016, 12:48 AM
Thanks Paolo,

i try to find the edges where i must lay my hands on but these part i didnt saw.
Thanks for that.Today i will use some more putty to make that sharp edge in the middle of the door.
So i will use it also for that form of the a-pillar.

Thanks!

Paolo i changed the shape of the beginning of the door.
You've got an very good eye for detail.

Some small progress on the shape of the car.
I made the panel lines and glued a thin small sheet onto the door. These will be the sharp edge on the door at the end.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3837633937326432.jpg

Cut out the brake breathers onto the hood.

The laminates at the early stages of making.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3830383065653766.jpg

One is sanded into the right shape now.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3134313062306637.jpg

And finally glued into the right place.
Fits well.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/73/3980473/3231373838646431.jpg

The hood got two holes for the tank filler and the next small pieces are glued.

Great work!
I really like all the gr.5 cars, I have a few different gr.5 cars in my stash to build. You've done a great job with the Lancia.

I would like to know what you applied to the seat to get that look, is it flocking or paint?

Capri-Schorsch
05-27-2016, 01:09 AM
It's called microballs.
A shot paint out of the can, put the balls over and let it try.
Than remove all the balls that not stick to the
Color and give it a last color shot.
Very easy.

The windows are in,but when i look at the rear window i dont know if this is what i want?
Maybe a vacuum formed windshield would be better?

The last parts like rivets, screws and the support holders for the mirrors are have to be made this week.
After this i will go on with the Ferrari 512M.

Hello and a good evening,
here is the finished Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo Gr.5 in 1/12 scale.
Its was my first complete in 3D printed model car.
A very big thanks goes to Torsten from http://www.scaleautofactory.com
He makes my wish comes through when he found a racing game with the Lancia and converted it to a printable version.
Big thanks to you Torsten!

The second big thanks goes to Michael from http://www.scalemodeller.de
He did ,as usual, some great personalized decals for me.

As far i know this is the only Lancia Beta in 1/12 scale i ever seen before.
Now some quick pics before i clean it and take some gallery pics in the next days.
