cigarette lighter to battery?

So I bought an emergency road kit and it came with an air compressor that connects into the cigarette lighter, which is completely normal, however my truck doesn't have a cigarette lighter. So is there a way I can switch out the end and put on jumper cable ends so I can run the air compressor off the battery? I found a few adapters that I could buy off of Amazon but I'm not sure if they will work or hold enough power. I'm not fully sure how many amps it will take for the air compressor. Any advice would be good.

Just cut off the cigarette lighter end- noting the polarity and attach a set of battery clips of the same gauge wire or bigger as your compressor and be done. Even if you get the polarity wrong, a dc motor will run backwards and probably not even notice with your compressor. Battery clips usually come with a red and a black clamp- so use the red for positive (the same as the inner pole of the lighter adapter) and the black as negative (same as outer on lighter adapter)

It would even be easier- (no cutting) to buy an adapter- that has the clips already on it, that has the cigarette lighter base attached to the clips. Then you'll just plug your compressor into this adapter at the battery.

So would an adapter like this one work? it says it only will do 10 amps.

Yes, you can double check the amp pull on your compressor label- should be less than 10 amps...
