Porsche 918 Martini 1:24 Revell

Just finished the Porsche 918 Weissach Packet in Martini Look. Kit is Revell in scale 1:24.
On the whole, a nice kit with some small faults. Biggest is that rims are to small again. I made new rims in CAD and printed these at Shapeways. The mesh over the engine bay was reproduced with a decal in gold. Therefore i made a new one from a HobbyDesign mesh (HD05-0007). CF decals are HobbyDesign (HD04-0107) because decals from kit was to grey and pattern to rough. Painted in Tamiya TS-26 pure white and clear coat Gunze TopCoat.

Looking damn good in Martini colours and not in that awful matt black Martini livery. Nice 3D work on the wheels. It really raises the quality of the model.

Great build with a lot of nice detailing! Great work on the wheels.

One question though.

I am going to be building this kit soon, and got a head up from someone saying not to glue the bumpers on before paint, because the chassis would not fit otherwise. But by the looks of it youre where glued pre paint correct?

Beautiful work Micha. The wheels and brakes are 1000% better than the kit supplied parts. Did you use the stock tires or another set?

To me , some of the pics aren't working, would love to see the rest.

Hi, sorry. I used simply the stock tires from Revell.
The stock rims have a small shoulder inside and the tires a goove.
On my 3d pirinted rims i made the shoulder outside and mounted the tires are inverted. The groove at the tires have the correct outside diameter.
Hopefully you understand my explanation in english.

"Quotation of Tompidom: I am going to be building this kit soon, and got a head up from someone saying not to glue the bumpers on before paint, because the chassis would not fit otherwise. But by the looks of it youre where glued pre paint correct"

I´m building also the 918. Under the advice of mwhh I glued also the bumpers to the body. But you have to cut off now the front spoiler from the frontbumper. For future refixing the spoiler, it is very helpfull to drill two small holes from the underside into the bumper. Position? Have a look at the pictures......

For a good conncection between the bumpers and the body it is also very helpfull to add some extra styrene stripes. Then you have a safe and resilient bonded joint.

This works, I can assure you....

Really sharp looking build and I love the 3D parts. It is really cool holding a 3D print from Shapeways after working so long on them in 3D CAD.

That turned out great, really like the white instead of the flat black. Are the parts available to purchase from Shapeways? Thanks.

Great looking build...another Martini liveried car to add to the growing list of to do's. Love the 3D printed rims. I will be looking into Shapeways for sure.
